The Demanding Life of a Tube of Lipstick
Just imagine… there’s far more to it than you might expect.
Yes, Liberty Forrest, Author — you asked and let me tell you…
At first glance, it may seem like a silly question. After all, it’s just a small object filled with colorful goo that we use to make our lips look more kissable or simply stave off the dryness from the rough Canadian winters. But, could there be something more to a tube of lipstick? Let’s explore.
How about the pressure that lipstick must feel? I mean, can you imagine being constantly squeezed and twisted to perform on demand?
When you think about it, that’s the life of a tube of lipstick!
Every time it’s used, it’s expected to deliver flawlessly — as so many advertisements highlight. And if it doesn’t, it’s tossed aside and replaced.
Talk about feeling disposable!
But it’s not just about appearances. Being a tube of lipstick also means always being ready and being someone’s companion — constantly.
The pressure! Think about it.
It’s there for a coffee date, important meetings, and evenings out.
It’s the first thing to be packed in a purse and the last thing to be taken out at the end of the day.
It’s like being a best friend with the extra pressure of having to look good all the time.
And, what about the constant comparisons?
As a tube of lipstick, you’re often being judged and analyzed against other tubes of lipstick.
Is your colour vibrant and on-trend?
Is your brand the most desirable?
It must be exhausting. A tube of lipstick could be constantly told they’re not good enough. Can you imagine?
Despite all these challenges, I like to think that being a tube of lipstick also has some perks.
For one, the travel!
Think about it. How many different countries and cities must lipstick have the opportunity to explore? The vibrancy, the culture, the world of adventure!
And let’s not forget about the influence that comes with being a tube of lipstick. With just a swipe, it can transform a person’s entire look and boost their confidence. It’s like a magic wand!
Plus, it gets to be part of some pretty remarkable moments, like a first kiss or a wedding day. Not too shabby for a little tube, if you ask me.
So, being a tube of lipstick may seem not so exciting at first glance. The same can be said about so many other aspects of life.
Give it time.
Understand its purpose.
See the opportunity.
When we grant space to reflect and consider the possibilities, much like life, we realize there is so much more to that tube of lipstick.
While the life of a tube of lipstick might be different than you’d expect, the same can be said for relationships with family as Darlene López captures as she explains the journey that she and her mother have taken. Have a read for yourself:
