The Definition of Cyber Security
Do you think it’s just bravado and hoodies?

Cybersecurity is an ongoing process of preparation and vigilance, involving a range of strategies and practices aimed at protecting digital assets and infrastructure from various cyber threats. Even in Penetration Testing, you are breaking into the bank on behalf of the bank.
Think of cyber security as the snowstorm you know will happen in the northern regions of the hemisphere. Your job is to plan to ensure that during the snowy season, your team can survive.
They will need warm clothing, protective gear, perhaps ice melt, snow scalpers for cars, emergency kits for cars, snow tires, snow chains, bull dozers, warm gloves, and firewood, you will need to test the electricity grid to ensure that it can handle all of the heating, you will need to post advisories to watch for ice and to warn of hazardous conditions.
You will need to prepare the public and emergency services, taking special care to help the very young and elderly. You will have to close school or work, or roads during inclement weather, and help the populace prepare for the worst.
Am I missing something? This is also similar to your efforts in cyber security.
You are preparing and spreading education to keep your team safe. There is no other illusion. It doesn’t matter if you are a pen tester or write policy, it doesn’t matter if you incident response of vendor management, it doesn’t matter if you focus on GRC, or implement tools… all that matters is that you work together for a common goal to protect your organization by preparation.
Other perspectives welcome.
