The Daily Writing Challenge

The Day My Life Changed Forever

Not to be dramatic, but this life hack may have just changed my life

Alright, my title may be a bit dramatic, however this life hack really did change my life. Living in Florida comes with lots of pros, but also a few cons. One of these cons is that I often get stuck in torrential downpours that occur almost like clockwork each afternoon.

After living in Florida for three years, I have finally constructed my perfect backpack that includes almost all of my essentials for whatever adventure I might choose to go on. And yes, I have my raingear and waterproof backpack. The one problem I have yet to solve is squishy shoes.

You probably know what I am talking about. A rain jacket or poncho only provides so much coverage. Inevitably, my shoes will always end up soaking wet when I lose track of time and must power my way through a classic Florida thunderstorm.

Then the squishing. You can feel the wetness with each step and even changing your socks only helps for about 2.1 seconds. That awful squeeze followed by water being released from your soles. Wet shoes are one of my biggest dislikes and they also take forever and a year to dry.

I am well accustomed to throwing my shoes into the dryer. Usually with about eight towels to try and lessen the dramatic pounding that occurs with each spin. I thought I was doing everything I could to dry my shoes with the least heartache. I had tried blow dryers, fans, and placing the shoes on the warm balcony. Nothing seemed to give me the dryness I was looking for with any sort of speed other than using the dryer.

But, I hated the banging. And if I came home late at night, I always felt bad turning on my obnoxious drumming machine and disturbing my neighbors. Then my life changed forever!

I do not know why this had never occurred to me before now, but your dryer is almost made to dry your shoes! Simply untie your shoes and place the laces through the dryer door. Close the door with your shoes secured in place, and dry to your heart’s content! No more loud banging or worrying if you are putting holes in your dryer.

Your dryer door holds your shoes in place, while the heat of your dryer gives you perfectly dry shoes that are ready for the next adventure.

My life has been changed and I also feel slightly dumb that I just learned about this trick recently. However, better late than never!
