The Day in the Life of Someone with Poor Time Management Skills

Ways I’ve Tried To Improve On This

Going With The Flow

Let me start by saying I’m pretty confident I’m not alone in this conundrum. Many of us are just terrible at managing our time properly. For me, being disabled and unable to work has only made matters worse. For others and even when I could work, there were many reasons I didn’t plan my time well and just went with the “flow”.

We all come up with excuses why we don’t necessarily work on a fixed schedule. Even now, I certainly don’t follow any fixed schedule. I go to bed and wake up at different times during the day.

Random Distractions

My mind is quite scattered and preoccupied with random thoughts and distractions during the day, and this also leads me to forget important things that need to get done on a deadline. These are just all things that I could think of when thinking of how lack of planning affects me personally.

I don’t want everything to sound bad so in addition to listing the things that are affected by my lack of planning, I’ve also come up with some ways to improve these through careful thought.

I Need to Sleep at a Normal Time

First of all, I think the important issue to address here is my sleep schedule. I’ve read countless articles and read numerous books praising the importance of a regular sleep schedule, how it affects overall health, and is beneficial to someone to follow it.

Even though pain affects me every day and there are days when it is easier to focus on this than others, I feel that just coming up with a reasonable, decisive time to go to bed and wake up will certainly be a good first step in the right direction.

Journaling and Planning

To address the distractions and my mind being scattered, I’ve considered charting my time in some sort of journal, planner, or on one of my electronic devices and planning at least 4 days in advance and also marking my deadlines of things I know I will need to get done even if that date is more than a month out.

In other aspects of my life when it comes to being in certain places on time, I mostly have that cornered as I usually like to plan to get ready a couple of hours in advance of any appointments or meetings I may have.

Making Time To Be Device Free

The other thing I’ve also considered to help me with being less distracted is to carve out a couple of hours a day where I’m disconnected from all electronic devices and just sitting and thinking about my day and things I want to accomplish.

Also, writing my thoughts down one way or another will help me in this too as I will be able to focus my thoughts on more specific thoughts rather than just scrolling through randomness all day long or playing a random mobile game or video game.

Hoping That Writing About My Struggles Help Others

I’m not an expert in mental health or psychology by any stretch of the imagination but I am someone who can draw from my personal experience and knows what can work for me. Listing some of these things to help myself, I’m hoping I can help others cut through their clutter and figure out how to be more efficient as well.

I know there is no one perfect method that works for everyone but if in writing this, I’ve gotten someone in the right direction, then typing this down was certainly worth managing my time a little better. Ah, see, I feel like I’m already heading in the right direction as I’m finishing this thought.
