The Day I Had a Conversation With a Chipmunk
We both learned something

It was a perfect day. I was sitting on a bench attached to a boardwalk that ran around some wetlands, relaxing.
A chipmunk popped up from under the far edge of the boardwalk and took a good look at me. Then he jumped onto the walk and zigzagged toward me.
A message from inside his head hit me like a tiny bolt of lightning ⚡.
Hey! I want to nibble on your shoe!
What did you just say? Really? Why?
He repeated.
I didn’t move or make a sound. My legs were stretched out in front of me, slightly bent at the knee, and my feet were flat.
He got to my shoe and started nibbling the top of it. Another nibble. A third.
It was like a little girls’ tea party. He didn’t actually eat anything. In fact, he didn’t leave a mark. Strange, because a chipmunk’s teeth are strong. Either he didn’t like leather, or he changed his mind for another reason.
Off he went.
I looked up chipmunks. They do this kind of thing.
What I didn’t find out was how I knew in advance what he wanted.
Telepathy with a chipmunk! ⚡ I could hardly believe it.
We might think our world is advanced, but we don’t understand many things.
An ideal outdoor temperature, no pressure to be at work, and the joy of being alive put me in total harmony with nature. Another creature picked up my vibes. He sent a message saying he was looking for food. Was that all right?
It was, as long as he just looked. Or I might have ended our tête à tête.
He meant no harm. He thought I meant no harm to him.
Thanks for reading. Sometimes I prefer not to dictate what your takeaway is!
