The Day I Almost Died

My True Story

I’m about to share the scariest moment of my life — get ready for an electrifying anecdote!

When I was younger, I always looked for ways to add thrill to my life. Growing up in a house surrounded by never-ending cornfields, with no neighbors and the nearest town 20 minutes away by car, I often felt bored out of my mind.

One day, when I was about 15 years old, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I climbed up to the roof of my house with nothing but a pair of binoculars and a thirst for adventure. I wanted to scout the area and see if anything was worth exploring nearby. After scanning the horizon for a while, my gaze suddenly landed on something completely out of place amidst the endless rows of corn.

I couldn’t resist the urge to explore, so I called my friends, and we all decided to embark on this thrilling adventure together. Little did I know, it would be the most terrifying moment of my life!

I got into the car, and we drove for about 10–15 minutes. With each passing minute, our anticipation and excitement grew. Our hearts raced, and our minds wondered what we would find at the end of our journey. Finally, we entered the tall corn, strolling uphill for another 10–15 minutes until we reached the top of the hill. And there it was — I knew it — an enormous Marijuana plantation.

*Non-members can read the full article here!*

As we stood on top of a hill, looking out in every direction, we suddenly realized that something was wrong. Despite our efforts, we could not see the end of the vast area that lay before us. It became clear that this was not the small plantation from Uncle Joe, but rather a plantation worth millions of dollars that undoubtedly belonged to a criminal organization.

Our hearts were pounding in our chests as we looked around with fear etched on our faces. Without wasting any time, I shouted to my friends, “Guys, we need to get out of here, now!” They nodded in agreement, but then we heard a sudden snap of a branch coming from the cornfield next to us. We stood frozen, not knowing what to do. One of my friends tried to reassure us, “It’s probably just a deer, let’s go!” Before we could even take a step, the cornfield split open, revealing a towering figure — a giant 6'5", 300-pound mass of pure muscle, holding a shotgun in his hand.

I took off like Road Runner, my heart pounding with adrenaline. My legs were moving faster than ever before, pushing me forward like a rocket. Suddenly, I heard someone yelling my name, “Alex, stop!” I was taken aback and came to a stop. I looked at my friend standing next to me, panicking. He pointed back in the direction we had come from. When I looked back, my blood ran cold. The guy we had been trying to evade had caught up to us! He had my other friend on his knee with a shotgun pointed right at his head.

I was faced with a decision: keep running and leave my friend behind or stand and fight to save his life.

Our hearts were pounding with fear as we stood frozen, watching the chaos unfold before us. But then something inside of us stirred. We knew we had to act. Ignoring the voice in our heads telling us to run away, my friend and I made a reckless decision to face the danger head-on.

As we rushed towards the giant, I noticed a walkie-talkie in his other hand. It was clear that he had just called for backup. But it was too late, turning back was no longer an option. As he saw us approaching him, he hit my friend in the face with the cross of the shotgun in an attempt to make us stop. And unfortunately, it worked. We had to stop, my friend’s eyebrow was open and bleeding all over his face.

To make the situation worse, two more bad guys showed up! They started saying they were going to kill us and use our bodies as fertilizer for the next crop.

There are no words to capture the level of fear I experienced. All of us were shaking and crying like babies, begging for our lives. At that moment I really thought I was going to Die.

Consumed by terror, I found myself unable to cease my frantic rambling, urgently trying to convince them that we were innocent bystanders who hadn’t witnessed a thing, and pledging solemnly to keep our mouths shut. But it was clear they paid no heed to my pleas. After some tense negotiation, they demanded that we hand over our wallets. They opened them and took out our IDs.

As our address was written on them, they threatened us by saying that if anything went wrong, or if even one of their plants disappeared, they were going to pay your family a little visit and burn our houses down. I repeated that they didn’t have to worry and that we were sorry. They just told us to shut up and go.

Meep-Meep, there was Road Runner again. I ran and I kept running despite the sharp corn leaves cutting my face. All I wanted was to get away as fast as possible. Then I heard A gunshot. I stopped, crouched down, and broke down in tears. I thought they had just killed one of us. This was all too much to process and I was only 15 years old.

This story is far from over! Stay tuned for part 2.
