Opinions
Writers and Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, and Producer Jonathan Wang, on their historic Oscar win for the beautiful film Everything Everywhere All At Once.
It was fitting for EEAAO to sweep the 95th Annual Academy Awards, as throughout the night there was an overreaching theme of hope, faith, and love reflected, as well as paths opening up for people to reach new, wonderful heights in their lives. These philosophical life themes are part of what makes the movie so important and relatable for many individuals.
Ke Huy Quan winning an Oscar after being away from acting for so many years, and previously losing hope that he would be able to achieve his acting dreams; Michelle Yeoh becoming the first Asian American woman to win an Oscar for best actress; Jamie Lee Curtis securing her first Oscar nomination and win on the heels of the end (?) of the legendary Halloween franchise (in which she debuted), which has spanned over 40 years; Brendan Fraser making a comeback to win an Oscar for Best Actor (though many fans would say he never left) after a hiatus from the spotlight.

While there were some disappointments, overall it was an uplifting night! EEAAO is a movie that showcases the power of choices and chances, and it delves into the potential meaning behind the lives we live. If there was ever a time when a movie like this was needed to remind people of their humanity and the humanity of others, it’s now. What a beautiful win!
