The Dangers of Writing Online

It’s not for the faint of heart

It takes a lot of guts to write online, especially if you write anything personal. Virtual strangers feel they have the right to tell you what to do about any and every situation in your life.

Are you ready for that?

Are you ready to have someone read an article about your mental health struggles and tell you what to do? Because that’s what WILL happen, unless you close the comments.

Most commenters are kind and respectful, and I appreciate them. I can tell they really care about my wellbeing. They may suggest things out of concern, but they don’t push an agenda.

Then you get those random few who feel like they are experts on your life, despite knowing next to nothing about you or what you’ve tried. They just want to sound knowledgeable and tell you what to do. You must put up your boundaries with these people and tell them to back off.

Comments are the biggest danger of writing online.

I guess it’s my fault for writing personal articles, but writing is therapy for me. I’m not looking for advice, I’m just sorting out my thoughts.

From now on, I think I’ll save the personal articles for my journal. It’s better that way.
