The Dangers of Spirit Boards: The Stories That Convinced Me To Never Use One
Harmless Family Game, Portal to Hell, or Weapon Inside the Mind?
You may have heard several rules concerning the use of Ouija Boards often referred to as Spirit Boards. To be honest, most I have heard off of Ghost Hunting documentaries and horror films. Such rules are actually real, terrifying, and sound like,
“Always say goodbye before leaving the ‘game’.”
“Don’t use it alone.”
Or “Never visit the board if you are sick or in your home.”
Disturbing.
The rules alone make me not want to have anything to do with it. If I have to give my personal opinion on the matter in this article. I will confess I have only one personal rule regarding Spirit Boards and other methods of communicating with spirits. 1) Never use one.
I don’t want to find out if they actually work.
However, there are several debates between scientists, Christians, paranormal investigators, skeptics, and individuals with their own personal encounters about how Spirit Boards work. There are many differing opinions on if they actually work the way we think they do.
Psychological Reactions or Spirit Activity?
Some scientists suggest Ouija Boards work through stimulating psychological mechanisms. Basically, scientists try to explain the creepy sensations experienced during the use of Ouija boards through psychological triggers and subconscious decisions made by all participants.
On the contrary, those who believe in the paranormal aspect of Spirit Boards believe that the “board game” is dangerous. As you do not know what kind of spirit you will be communicating with, many paranormal investigators and believers in the paranormal and spirits do not recommend the use of Ouija Boards as they believe it potentially invites evil into your life.
Spirit Boards are widely used to talk to the dead or other spirits. Many people who have used the board did so with good intentions to communicate with loved ones who had passed on. Participants place their hands on the planchette and ask the spirit questions. The board is filled with letters that the planchette will land on to spell out words.

One of the most scary things about Ouija Boards is they are widely available, and they don’t have to necessarily be a board in a box that you purchase at a store. Some have used Ouija boards in the forms of apps on their phone or even made their own out of pieces of paper. They all work the same.
Terrifying Stories and Encounters with the Demonic
Some who have used the Ouija Board and experienced shocking encounters claim demonic spirits have pretended to be other spirits to get them to communicate with them. By answering questions as if they were a dead relative or an innocent child, they communicate with you before later terrorizing you. This has occurred among several users, especially hundreds who have claimed they experienced this terrifying encounter with the same demon.
Conclusion: Dangerous for your spirit, your mind, or both?
Whether Spirit Boards lead to demonic terror or mental anguish (or both), the stories told by those who experienced the board are terrifying. Making it a “game” I do not wish to play.
