Summary

The website presents a writing prompt for fiction set in a shopping center, mall, or gift shop, where an argument leads to someone getting hurt, with no word count restriction.

Abstract

The provided content is from a website that offers daily writing prompts. The specific prompt for November 29th is aimed at fiction writers and involves crafting a story around an argument that takes place in a commercial setting such as a shopping center, mall, or gift shop. Writers are encouraged to explore the scene from the perspective of either a participant or an observer. The prompt emphasizes creativity by not imposing a word limit, allowing writers to develop the story as they see fit. However, there is a restriction that adds a twist to the narrative: someone in the story must end up getting hurt, either physically or emotionally. This restriction is intended to challenge writers and push the boundaries of their storytelling. The prompt also reminds writers of the ongoing monthly theme, encouraging them to integrate it into their work for additional inspiration.

Opinions

  • The prompt is designed to challenge writers by introducing a dramatic element (an argument leading to someone getting hurt).
  • Writers are given complete freedom regarding the story's length to focus on the narrative's quality and depth.
  • The inclusion of a monthly theme suggests a broader context for writers to consider, potentially enriching their stories.
  • The prompt encourages writers to practice their craft by providing a specific scenario that requires them to think about character dynamics and conflict resolution.
  • The use of a visual aid (the photograph by Heidi Fin) is likely intended to inspire writers and set the mood for their stories.

Fiction Prompt

Welcome to the last days of November! In preparation for December’s shake-up (because you know I must keep you all on your toes!), today’s prompt will be a fiction prompt. So without further adieu, let’s get on with next to the last day of November’s prompting!

Today’s Fiction prompt

Write a story that takes place in a shopping center, mall, or gift shop. An argument occurs. Are you one of the participants or merely an observer? Write the scene or a complete story.

Word Length — Any (yes, this means it can be as short or long as necessary to tell the story!) Restriction — Someone is going to get hurt.

‘Restrictions’ are to challenge you as a writer. However, with everything else here at PW, use these prompts in any way that allows the creative juices to flow.

Write promptly and enjoy! And don’t forget about the Monthly Theme!
