The Curious Case of George Soros
I find myself rather puzzled by George Soros.
Wikipedia (which is never wrong) for once is a useful tool on this matter. It currently says: “ Soros has wryly described his home as a Jewish antisemitic home.[31] His mother Erzsébet (also known as Elizabeth) came from a family that owned a thriving silk shop. His father Tivadar (also known as Teodoro Ŝvarc) was a lawyer[32] and a well-known Esperanto-speaker[33] editing a literary magazine,” but at one time Wikipedia (which is never wrong) said that Mr Soros’ father (and by implication whole family) had converted to Catholicism: I am sure if you can be bothered to wade through the notes, and the various editorial arguments, you can find when this happened and thus uncover why Wikipedia (which is never wrong) is a useful tool: because by dating the changes and matching them to news reports it is possible to chart the political weft and wane of George Soros’ influence and fortunes.
I am sure we are all grown up enough to work out the various reasons why his father may have converted, or not, to Catholicism. And if you are not, I recommend reading some nineteen and early twentieth century history books on central Europe. (A quick tip, if you ever find yourself saying the words ‘cultural Marxism, then stop, and go and read some actual history)
What puzzles me is the current vogue for claiming that criticism of George Soros is anti-Semitic: because it plays on tropes of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and of Jews running the world through secret organisations.
Which is frankly bizarre, on a very basic level. If you are a billionaire, with government connections, making pennies on the pound through channeling government money, and using your connections to further your interests, you are not doing it for religious reasons, you are doing it because it is a good business model (and one as old as time) that makes you lots of money. (and again if you find yourself saying things like ‘it’s all religious group X’, then stop, and go and read some actual history)
In fact when you bother to think about these claims of anti-Semitic tropes they make even less sense. For instance, it is not a secret that George Soros is doing this. It is a widely known. Just as it is widely known and reported that George Soros has an ongoing dispute with Israel… (which curiously enough would make him anti-Semitic in some quarters)
Therefore it was of no surprise to see this story show up in the Guardian: “‘Contemptible’: outrage as Rudy Giuliani attacks George Soros as ‘hardly a Jew’”
There is no need to remind you (oh I just have) that two weeks ago the Guardian said this, “ Anything less than zero tolerance against racism tarnishes Labour’s credentials as an anti-racist organisation. The pain and hurt within the Jewish community, and the damage to Labour, are undeniable and shaming. Yet Labour remains indispensable to progressive politics.” Which pissed off a large number of people, Gentile and Jew, but we are to forget that, because the Guardian are now able to regain the moral ground by attacking bogeyman Rudy Giuliani, for being disrespectful of religious sentiment.
The basis for the story is ostensibly an interview with the New York Magazine, though most people of a sentient nature know the basis for the story is the ongoing ‘conversation’, otherwise known as President Trump’s Schrodingerian cat impeachment saga.
It is also an issue of semiotics.

Yeah fine, question the sources…
Well try this, from 2014, in the Guardian, written by George Soros, “How the EU can save Ukraine”…(perhaps not while Victoria Nuland was fucking it)…“ Offering free political risk insurance to those who invest in or do business with Ukraine”… I wonder what that could be?…(if you don’t want to pay the premium, or own the insurance company)… I’ll leave you to dig out the earlier, pre-coup, articles as to the profits George Soros was offering investors in the little adventure in Ukraine….
So given the Trump impeachment saga revolves around Ukraine, and the Ukrainian president completely skipping over the line Trump had been fed by the swamp (to set Trump up), it is not surprising that Soros should be dragged out like a scarecrow with his gummage anti-Semitism head on.
Which makes me wonder about the anti-Semitism of the ADL, for they only ever appear to defend Soros from anti-Semitic tropes, when it gets perilously close to him being accused of actual ‘high crimes and misdemenours’.
But never fear Mother Jones is here, to feed the reasonably literate, and terminally stupid, with their dose of ‘reality’.
