The Crazy Effects of Smiling
trick yourself into a good mood
We all know that our mood affects our body language.
We hang our heads and look sad when we’re not feeling well. But what very few people know: It also works the other way around.
In this article, you will learn how you can trick your brain and improve your mood at will.
I’ll give you a task:
Stand in front of the mirror and clamp a pen or toothbrush between your teeth. This way you are forced to smile. Now, look at yourself in this state for one minute.
How do you feel?
I assume you feel happier and in a better mood than before.
But how does that work? Is it really that simple?
Science provides us with the answers. It’s actually proven that even a fake smile makes you happier. This is because our brain automatically sends signals to smile to the muscles of the mouth when we are happy.
It works the other way around, too, because of this coupling. When we smile, the mouth sends signals to the brain that we are happy. Whether the smile is genuine or forced.
It gets even crazier: Incredible reasons to smile were found in a DePauw University study. Those who smile in their graduation photo are happier later and less likely to be divorced. Also, it’s considered proven that people who smile a lot live longer and have less heart disease.
Really amazing our body. Keep smiling!
