The Corona Virus — an Insider’s View

China is hiding more that you think it is. The Corona virus has been raging for more than 2 months now, and some of the facts are just being revealed, even to the Chinese. I’m a current resident of China, and these are some information I’ve collected. Some of these are word of mouth, others are through social media groups, and still others are just logical deductions. Please take this with a grain of salt and excuse the lack of cited sources.
Let’s start at the beginning. The Corona virus appears to have originated in Wuhan, Hubei, China. The first cases were actually reported towards the end of December 2019. The virus was hard to detect because the symptoms largely resembled the common flu, with only some cases resulting in more serious conditions. However, eight doctors wrote a report that they found a new virus strain that is alarmingly like SARS, the virus that caused the 2002 epidemic. The DNA sequences of the new virus is something like >90% identical to SARS (I don’t have the actual number), kind of like how we humans are genetically related to chimpanzees. These doctors warned about a possible incoming epidemic and called for preventative actions. So what does the Wuhan government do? They arrested the doctors and made them confess to making up these “lies to the public”. And then, they went on to host an annual event involving more than 10,000 families. That’s a conservative estimate of >30,000 people coming together, some of whom already carried the virus.
That’s not all. The (I’ll try my best to translate) Director of Disease Prevention was sent to assess the outbreak. His conclusion? “Treatable, preventable, and won’t transmit human-to-human.” Oh, yeah. Uh huh. It was discovered much later that TWO DAYS after he announced this, he published a paper in a foreign country (maybe the UK?) stating the Corona virus is in fact human-to-human and highly dangerous. What. The. Fuck. This is high key a crime against humanity. Of course, there hasn’t been news of this guy being punished for anything yet, so we know he has good political ties.
The numbers coming out of China are also watered down. First of all, we don’t even know if the numbers are just edited before being published. A reported 2,000–3,000 new cases are confirmed daily, but even that’s a conservative estimate. The shortage of medical equipment including the tests needed for diagnosis means that many if not most of the infected are not “officially sick”. They are left without medical treatment and are not counted in the statistics. The same goes for the death counts; more than 900 was the statistic as of today, but if someone dies without been officially diagnosed, they don’t count!
The behavior of the Hubei government has been irresponsible to say the least. Around January 24 or 25, after all the surrounding provinces have declared Level 1 emergency (the highest level), Hubei reluctantly switch from Level 2, where it was the whole time. In what world does it make sense for Ground Zero of an epidemic to be a lower state of emergency than surrounding areas? That’s bullshit. The local government did nothing to prevent the spread of the disease from its early stages and instead tried to hide it. This turned a natural disaster into a man-made one.
Currently, there are exactly ZERO movement of civilians in and out of Wuhan and its neighbors. Everywhere else, traffic is extremely controlled. Because of the Lunar New Year, many people are not where they work, and they are being delayed and locked down. There are no crowds in the streets, and residential areas in all major cities, in Hubei or not, are been carefully quarantined. All restaurants, stores except for groceries, and postal services have shut down. This doesn’t just look like a SARS clone epidemic. It’s more like the prologue to Resident Evil.
