The Choice Between Bad or Worse
Idiocy is spreading like a virus
I keep asking this question: Is it just me, or do other people see things falling apart and idiocy becoming the norm?
That is a rhetorical question as I read constantly and the comments on our vast array of media channels continuously and ever more frantically ask this question. Note that I said ‘comments’ and not content.
The content moves farther away from reality the further you go up the media food chain. At the top, it's all about adapting to fascists, white supremacists, and functional idiots as acceptable choices for national office. Everything is acceptable except human survival, as it would harm the oligarchs.
Even in the semipro media world, survival and cultural collapse questions are ignored as impolite and fringe. Meanwhile, the newly normalized can demand racist laws, science denial, and old-fashioned antisemitism if they want. They don’t have to qualify to enter the race if they have an old political name.
I very much want to say, who left these people out on the street without supervision? But that suggests that a sane nation would restrain these people. But America already has the highest incarceration rate on the planet, excluding pariah states.
The natural incarceration rate for countries comparable to the US is around 100 prisoners per 100,000 population. Read the two previous paragraphs again. Could it be that we have diligently locked up the wrong part of our population? If that is how we deal with anyone even moderately questionable, those who should be locked up must include the people in charge of locking up a huge population unjustly.
Obviously, we have made serious mistakes in basic administration, not to mention destroying our planet to reward the people who should be imprisoned.
Instead of swapping categories of people for imprisonment, we should rethink the whole thing.
That, of course, is not going to happen.
Currently, we have the full idiocy of the national horse race. Trump is leading, and Biden is falling behind. The frantic quest for hundreds of millions of dollars to save the country from . . .
Everyone is unhappy except those committed to making money from the horse race.
This is simply, however. Trump is functionally incompetent and a criminal. Biden is locked in the 20th century and trying to do the right thing, but that tight thing has nothing to do with the existing systems.
Unless something changes, Biden is the only choice. The largest challenge in human history is the destruction of our climate and planetary resources.
The science shows that we are screwed and have maybe ten years to completely redesign our planetary economy. All other issues and positions will be swept away by climate disasters.
Whoever is president of the US in 2025 will not matter by 2027. Implementing planetary systems to slow the disasters (doomed, but we need to try) will produce a completely different system.
The only concern at this point is avoiding allowing a complete idiot to complete the planet's destruction. Biden is the best of an amazingly bad set of options.
Our choice is between a befuddled, aging politician who is only moderately corrupt and a complete idiot who is a convicted criminal.
In case you have not noticed, there are no policies beyond continuing on the road to doom. It is the same policy on both sides in America. As Gore Vidal said: There is only one party in the United States: the Property party… and it has two right wings: Republican and Democrat.
Let’s see: A moderately befuddled politician versus a proven incompetent and convicted criminal? Do you need help?
This exhibit of idiocy needs to be mocked. It cannot and will not survive as the finish line for this horse race is a cliff.
