The Casino Always Wins
How Much Are You Willing To Lose

Walk into any casino the world over and you’ll always see the same thing. A ton of people losing and a few winners.
Well, this casino isn’t any different. In its own infectious way, this casino is counting on all of us falling prey to the allure of making money at the slot machines, the roulette wheel, or the blackjack tables. So, here we all are, pouring our money out wanting to be that person who just won big at the craps table.
Every so often we witness the excited squeal of a patron who steps up to a slot machine, inserts a couple of dollars, and yanks the lever one time, and is rewarded cash one thousand times their initial investment.
And what do we do?
Well, we immediately head over to the slots and begin feeding all the kitties with our hard-earned money expecting the same results. The problem is, in our frenzied rush to gain the same rewards we forget an age-old idiom.
The casino always wins.
Every game of chance in this and any other casino, and believe me, they are all terrific gambles, is designed so the establishment wins more times than it “loses” or pays out. It’s how any gambling related endeavor from horseracing and state lotteries to sports betting make their money.
And these casinos make tons of it, but just like any establishment that gets rich off of the proceeds of the hopefuls, this casino like all the rest, wants to get richer.
It needs more people laying bets which simply makes it richer and richer. But it has to make it seem to the regular patron there’s an opportunity to make it big in this casino.
Hey, look losers! You can be a winner just like our favored player. They made millions and you can too!
And so, to ensure people come in and lose their money, the casinos routinely highlight the big winners, promote them, and their winnings to all the joe schmoes milling about wanting to be a top moneymaker like them.
Don’t be fooled. This promotion isn’t a magnanimous outpouring of genuine happiness for the winner. The casino doesn’t care about the winners one bit. Why should they? They had to pay this winner some big dollars.
The casino’s sole purpose for promoting this winner is to entice others to lay their money down and take a chance. Hey, look losers! You can be a winner just like our player. They made millions and you can too!
So we play, and we win just enough times to keep the addiction going then we lose, and soon we keep losing way more times than we win.
But by now, we’ve become addicted to the feeling we get when the casino hands us our paltry sums of money or God forbid, features us as a winner.
Still, we need the adrenalin rush in our systems even if they’re handing out scraps. No, they’re not millions of dollars. For most of us, they’re not even hundreds of dollars, but the casino knows we’re hooked.
They expect us to play and play we do. Each day, every week, every month we lay our monies down and take a turn with the dice. Although we know it, we blindly choose to ignore the fact that the casino always wins.
The casino always wins folks.
And they know, all the casinos know. For many, playing at this casino is an addiction as bad as being hooked on crack cocaine.
If you already knew this, then you already understand how it’s probably going to turn out and are not in this particular casino to win. Oh, you enjoy the wins here and there, but you probably remind yourself you won’t win consistently and it doesn’t matter.
For you, this is recreational gambling. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Win or lose it’s fun till the money’s gone and you walk out. Your goal is always just to have a good time and maybe come away with what you started with and possibly a little sumpin’, sumpin’ extra.
This casino and all the casinos in the world will, of course, thank you for your monetary contributions, continue to tantalize you with free Hors d’Oeuvres, complimentary drinks, and chances of winning big at the roulette wheel.
They don’t care if you go broke trying to win.
It’s not their problem if you choose to sell all your assets for more money just so you can buy more chances at the wheel. And they know, all the casinos know. For many, playing at this casino is an addiction as bad as being hooked on crack cocaine.
In the end, it all comes down to how much are you willing to lose, and for how long. Take all the time you need to lose big and win small.
They really don’t care about you.
But your money? Well, that’s a completely different story.
