The Caped Crusader — The Dog Nextdoor
She’s Robin, I’m Batman. Every day we set out to save the world.
The Dog Nextdoor has been my faithful companion on walks for the past decade. Her own pack takes her out for long treks on the beach or through the country parks, but she’s always game for a sedate trip around the neighbourhood with me.
If her pack goes away — as they have to from time to time — we go in to see to her needs. And sometimes she decides to move in with us until her pack returns home, but that’s a decision we leave to her.
When she’s living next door, she comes into our house to say hello and frisk us for cheese, but stays downstairs. When she decides to move in, she heads upstairs to the office and makes herself a bed under my desk, becoming my writing companion for the duration.
As well as saving the world in our role as neighbourhood superheroines, our trips allow her to catch up with all the news from around the area:
And sometimes to recruit new members to our caped crusading team:
And although she is always ready to oblige…
…she is clear on what is important in life:
The Dog Nextdoor might be getting on in years, but she’s not past having an occasional puppyish frolic.

A true caped crusader in the old style without whom we would not sleep so easily at nights.
