The Cactus
A Poem
Sometimes I feel like a cactus Just a pinprick from scaring someone away who wanted to be close with me but couldn’t figure out how to navigate my thorns
Sometimes I want to grow bigger so everything will pop around me and leave me alone, in the desert, with only my thorns
Sometimes I want to shrink so no one can see me but remain prickly just in case someone tries to pick me up and hold me close
Sometimes I want to be repulsive to the touch, so that I can just be left alone, thorns and all, in a moment of true solitude
