Summary

The author is experiencing a technology outage and is being nudged by the universe to engage in outdoor activities and exercise.

Abstract

The author is facing a situation where the internet and television are unavailable, leading to a sense of disconnection from their usual online activities, particularly on Medium. This unexpected disruption is interpreted as a sign to step away from technology and embrace outdoor activities such as walking in a snowstorm, improving photography skills, making a snow angel, visiting the lake, or simply enjoying the fresh air. The author acknowledges that it has been a long time since they last enjoyed the outdoors for leisure and recognizes that this break from technology is an overdue opportunity to reconnect with nature.

Opinions

  • The author views the lack of internet and television as an invitation from the universe to engage in physical activity and nature appreciation, rather than a mere inconvenience.
  • There is a hint of humor in the author's interpretation of the situation, as they personify the universe as an entity encouraging them to exercise despite their efforts to avoid making it a New Year's resolution.
  • The author seems to have a positive outlook on the situation, seeing it as a chance to improve their photography and enjoy simple pleasures like making a snow angel.
  • The author implies that they have been neglecting outdoor activities and views this moment as a necessary and beneficial interruption to their routine.

The cable is out. Without the internet to play on Medium, I feel lost.

There’s no television or ability to Google search. So what’s a stationary person to do?

It’s as if the universe is saying,

Karen, although you went to great lengths this year to not make exercise your New Year’s resolution, I am going to help you.

On this second day of the year, I am taking away your ability to use technology and inviting you to get outdoors to enjoy nature.

Perhaps today, you’ll take a walk during this snowstorm with your camera to improve your photography, to make a snow angel, to visit the lake, or breathe the fresh air.

It’s been a long time since I’ve walked for the sheer pleasure of enjoying the outdoors.

It’s long overdue.
