The Bots Are Here (And They Want You To Join Telegram)

Does Medium have a bot problem?

Is it just me or has Medium been overrun by bots recently?

Maybe you’ve encountered them too.

Here’s how it goes: you receive a notification that someone’s responded to your comment.

Great! Interacting is cool.

However, when you open the notification and read the comment, it looks something like this:

A) That’s a fake account, mirroring the person who actually wrote the article, and

B) The response even sounds robotic.

I’ve only been on Medium a short time, but I’ve already received 3–4 bot responses to my comments.

This is a great platform with a wonderful writing/reading community, and it has a long way to go before it starts looking anything like the spammy purgatory that Twitter’s fast becoming.

But I hope Medium can nip this in the bud soon before some innocent person actually does send a Telegram message they soon come to regret.
