The Birthday Walk
November Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Collecting Smiles!”
Tantalizing aromas need to be worn.
We live on 5 acres of Maine woods, a mix of pasture, and scrub, and an old pond now a meandering stream when the beaver moved on. The tangle of fallen trees and wild-grown weeds shelter a myriad of animals. They all disappear as we tromp noisily through the brush, leaving only their scent, enticing and addictive, to a dog’s nose at the least.
It’s my birthday today, a monumental one at that. I chose to keep it simple, spend time with my horse, cuddle with the indoor kitties, and win points with the barn cats by feeding them canned food while stealing a scratch behind an ear or two.
The highlight was a walk with my dog. No amount of dinner or diamonds can replicate the smile in my soul while I watch him frolic and roll in the bouquet of mysterious forest floor markings.
He’s smiling a little too.
If he passes the sniff test, he’ll sleep in my bed. 😉
Thank you for reading!
