The Best Time To Write Is When You’re Not Inspired
It’s more challenging but worth it in the long-term
Write: When You’re Not Inspired Frequently
My good friend just got into writing. As we were chatting, I asked when they would publish their next article. They didn’t know. Furthermore, they said they currently aren’t inspired.
I responded by saying: The best time to write is when you’re not inspired. It’s harder to write, yes, but the discipline that comes from writing when you seem to have nothing in you will make you a better, more skilled writer.
Scratch: Inspiration & Perfection
Two problems for many of us writers are:
- We wait until we feel inspired to write
- We wait until we have a new or worthy-to-share kind of writing idea.
These are fake problems. Don’t wait for the perfect idea or inspiration. Often, it won’t be there.
As you develop the habit of writing every day, you’ll come to find that sometimes you simply have to act as if you’re inspired or ignore how you feel to meet your objective: publish an article.
Habits aren’t about inspiration; they’re about discipline and the reward you get in return for exercising consistent discipline.
