The Best Camera Is: Nikon Z9

The One You Have With You

There is a saying, “The best camera…is the one you have with you.”

In “The Best Camera Is…” series, we peek at the best photos from the best camera…that I had with me.

From — last month until today, one of those cameras has been…the Nikon Z9.

If you’re reading up on this camera, you probably know what it’s all about.

I am coming from the D850, a very capable camera on its own. I had been waiting for the camera that felt up to the task of replacing it, and the Z9 seemed like it.

In a move I had never made before, I went for the flagship.

There is a definite learning curve. Buttons are in different places, and the feel is not the same. The lenses have all changed. Focusing is different.

But is it the new best camera for me? Do I love it…or do I sometimes wish for my old body back?

Unfortunately for the last two months I have mostly been stuck in one place. On a remote farm in a remote county in remote Minnesota. Every day has been gray with shades of blue, white, and possibly orange if you start a fire or get rust on something.

I just couldn’t wait to post about the camera with a few pics…let’s see what this thing can do when you have nothing to photograph.

All in all, this is really not a great test of the camera’s capabilities. I am looking forward to putting it through its paces soon and will update this or create an entirely new post when the time comes.
