The Best Blogging Sites that will Pay you to Blog
It’s the modern-day dream, isn’t it? To become a hip and trendy blogger, working from your bedroom in house shoes or even at some cozy little cafe somewhere, updating your ‘Sex and The City’ style blog, living the Carrie Bradshaw life like you invented it.
Okay, Carrie was actually a journalist, but a blog is pretty close, right?
The dream of making oodles of money online blogging can happen, but one key to success is finding the right blogging community for you!
For instance, I love the Medium community and have a great time here. So, I spend a lot of time on Medium talking to other writers and hanging out here. While I am just communicating with other writers and readers, my own work is being looked at. I’m essentially marketing without even being aware. This makes putting your work out there and getting views a heck of a lot easier and kind of fun!
The more comfortable you are with the blogging community, the more success you might have. And it is a FANTASTIC time to be a writer, because there is SO MUCH MONEY ONLINE and many different blogging/writing communities to choose from!
Here I have a list of some popular blogging platforms and communities that will pay you for getting reads on your blog. You can start your search for your new blogging home here!
Let’s begin!
Medium

My home base for blogging and where you’re probably reading this right now!
The Medium community is awesome. I am both a writer and avid reader on Medium. There’s soooooooo much interesting content that I usually have to force myself to stop reading others to get my own writing done!
Medium will pay you only for internal views, which means you only get paid when someone with a registered Medium account reads your post. But Medium still has writers making 10,000 to 25,000 a month off the platform, like Tim Denning. And while Tim Denning is one of the most famous Medium success stories, he’s not the only one. Many folks are making just as much, if not more, than him by publishing on Medium.
How can a platform that only pays for internal views be making wealthy writers? It’s because Medium's audience is MASSIVE! The site boast over 100 million unique hits per month. And if you can get more people to sign up for Medium, they have a generous affiliate plan!
By the way…have you signed up for Medium yet? Ehem…here’s my affiliate link! I get paid every time someone joins Medium using it.
Simily

Simily is the new kid on the blog. As it is new, it doesn’t have very many registered users yet, I think it’s less than 5,000. One thing that sets Simily apart from the others is that it caters mostly to fiction writing. Another thing that sets it apart is it’s offering it’s writers 0.02 cents per page view. That’s generous compared to some other services, and that’s not just internal views either. That’s for internal and external views. Someone with good marketing skills could promote this company and make a killing with 0.02 per view if they have enough content to share.
If you want to see what the profiles look like on the site here’s my Simily blog.
Vocal. Media
Vocal is another content sharing site with many positives, but also many negatives.
You get paid for both internal and external views.
$3.80 per 1000 for the regular free account and
$6.00 per 1000 if you have the paid Vocal+ account
Vocal. Media also has success stories, and writers make a good living there. However, some of their workings are a bit wonky. Reliable creators on Medium have complained about not getting paid on time from Vocal. They eventually got paid, but not without some hassel. Also, the fact that they make it difficult to edit and delete your articles is strange to me. However, the thing makes Vocal.Media attractive is their community.
Indeed, Vocal.Media has a fun writers community full of games, contests and great support for one another. Their Facebook groups are also enjoyable, and where they keep this fantastic community spirit going!

I also have a Vocal.Media blog
Newsbreak
Is one of the better paying and harder to get into writing platforms on this list.
I applied for Newsbreak, got rejected, and then many, many, many months later got a surprise e-mail from them inviting me to join their platform as a relationship writer.
I admit I gave it a go, but didn’t have much success with Newbreak so far, and they have many restrictions. But a lot of people have made a lot of money on this site for sure. Apparently, they too have a massive audience, and people can get lots of views quickly IF they write the right kind of content.
The site caters to regional news. Something I will have to work on if I ever want to see success on this site.
Apply for Newsbreak Unlike some of these other platforms, you have to apply for Newsbreak, and you might not get accepted immediately.
Tips for success: It helps if you have an already established blog and some blogging work you can show them. If you get rejected, I heard persistence pays. Or you could do what I did and wait about a year or so to see if they need your niche and call you back.
Other notable mentions
These are sites that I heard pay, but I don’t have much dealings with them or they are so popular I didn’t feel the need to discuss them closely.
Hubpages
I remember HubPages from way back when. Apparently, you can get paid for blogging there now. Not sure how. Supposedly they pay you for page views, but how all of that goes, I couldn’t tell you.
Wordpress
Everyone knows Wordpress so there’s not much I can say about that. As far as I know, you can get paid by putting ads on your blog. If there’s something more to it than that I don’t know it. I may put up a personal blog here and try monetizing it to see how it goes.
Quora
I love writing and answering questions on Quora, but I don’t get paid for it. There seem to be at least 2 ways to make money on Quora, but I have little understanding of either one.
Substack
Substack is another platform that a lot of writers are making a killing at. I believe you create paid newsletters. People are even writing fiction on Substack, which I think is an awesome idea. It’s definitely a platform I’m going to look into soon.
Revue
Revue is a site I've heard a little bit of buzz about. It sounds like it works like Substack. If you’ve checked out this platform, let me know how it went.
All these are reputable places to create a blog and start your online writing journey.
You could of course start from scratch and start blogging under your own personal domain name, but this is a much tougher route when you are just starting out and don’t have a community behind you. If nothing else, these communities will train you on the ins and outs of blogging. How to write eye-catching titles, SEO, what kind of content attracts readers and much more. And as you grow your audience when you’re ready to branch out into your own personal blog, you have an audience already there willing to view your content! And best of all, you can make some money as you learn!
It’s a win-win, I say!
Happy Blogging!
