Tainan is known country-wide for its relaxed atmosphere, lack of monstrous skyscrapers, amazing food, and awesome beaches. It also has a hell of a fun party scene — even if most people don’t realize it.
There are actually hundreds of bars in Tainan, but most are situated in dark alleys and cater to small cliques that a casual tourist might not be too comfortable visiting.
But fortunately, there’re several kickass bars where everyone isn’t just welcome — they’re treated like friends/family/party animals!

The Best Bars to Visit in Tainan City, Taiwan
Legends Sports Bar
Whether you’re looking to party hard, chill and play some billiards, or just grab some tasty tacos over a quiet meal, Legends Sports Bar has it all.
Located in the center of the city just a short walk from the train station, Legends has three floors, each with a different theme.
The ground floor operates as a chillaxed restaurant and bar during the week, with an extensive menu of tasty homemade western food like tacos, wings, burgers, deep-fried platters, and weekly specials — they even have perogies from time to time!
Walk up to the 2nd floor and you’ll feel like you’re in a club in downtown Taipei. The black and white tiled floor is perfect for dancing in front of the weekend DJs with a bar on the other side to quench your thirst.
Go up to the 3rd floor and find yourself in a sports bar, complete with a pool table, dart machines, and all the major sports playing on TV and a huge projector.
This is one of the main party spots on the weekend in Tainan City, so if you’re in town, make sure you don’t miss out!

Dive Bar
If you’re looking for a more relaxed vibe, the Dive bar in Tainan is definitely your spot. Open from Tuesday to Saturday late night, it's often the first stop for party goers to down an array of amazing craft beers, cocktails, and one of the best damn burgers in the country.
Every weekday offers a different drink special, like Tiger Tuesday and Well Drink Wednesday (check out their Facebook for more info). The weekends often get a bit packed, which makes for an awesome party scene that’s half inside and half outside on the ultra-wide sidewalks of HaiAn Road.
It’s a perfect place to bring a few friends, grab some nice drinks, and sit at a table outside enjoying the weather and chilled-out ambiance of this unique street.

Hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM, they’re occasionally open later if busy, and holiday weekends usually open up on Sundays, otherwise closed on Sundays and Mondays
Funkoo Mexican Bar and Restaurant
While this spot is more a restaurant than a bar, it doesn’t stop people from enjoying lots of tequila and Corona nightly. In case you haven’t guessed already, it’s the most prominent Mexican-themed restaurant bar in the city.
From amazing tacos and quesadillas, to margaritas and tequilas, Funkoo has it all. Most people choose to sit outside to enjoy the fresh air and cool vibes from HaiAn road, but there is a large projector and seating inside if that’s your jazz, too.
The pricing is great here and they also have weekday specials — like my personal favorite, Taco Tuesday! Be sure to give it a try if you’re looking for something a bit different (and super tasty) from the usual Tainan fare.
The kitchen usually closes around 11:30, but as long as there’s people, the bar remains open until 1:00 AM most nights.

The Artful Dodger
If you’re looking for something a bit upscale, British, and classier than most places, come check out The Artful Dodger. It’s a nice little casual combination of a pub, restaurant, and bakery, with every night of the week offering a slightly different vibe.
Come for the shepherd's pie or stay for the fresh pints on draft, it doesn’t matter, because everything here is absolutely delicious. While it’s not the cheapest pub in the world, it makes up for it with the friendly service, the homemade recipes, and the chill vibe tucked away on a small side street in the North of Tainan City. They also have a weekly trivia night where you can impress the locals with your vast knowledge — and even win a prize or two.

If you’re looking for great food and drinks at a reasonable price, Willy’s Sports Bar is the perfect spot in Tainan. Located near AnPing, it’s a great place to grab dinner with friends and colleagues before heading out later in the evening.
The pub is full of sports memorabilia, amazing staff, and has a western vibe to it somewhat unique in the city. If you’re in the mood to mow down on huge portion sizes, Willy’s won’t disappoint.
