The Benefits of Taking a Walk by Yourself

Sometimes small things hold great value, like taking a walk in the park, around the neighborhood, or a new place. Doing it alone adds even more value.

Physical Health

This is an obvious benefit, but it shouldn’t be overlooked.

Some people don’t get a chance to go to the gym. Others, like myself, hate going to the gym in the first place. Walks are my compromise.

When alone, you can set the pace and use the time to tune out the external noise.

Mental Health

All the distractions at work and home make internalization difficult.

This is why I like solo walks. They help me process things in my head while out in the fresh air where I can think more clearly.

This can also improve sleep as it reduces overthinking at night.

Visualization

Seeing the same enclosed spaces can dull the imagination. Walking in beautiful places is inspiring.

I look at the scenery and let my imagination take over.

Sometimes I come up with story ideas, other times it helps me visualize my future.
