The Beginning Of A New Dawn

But, like the sun rising, some things never change

Julius Caesar, James Maddison, the fourth President of the United States, and Machiavelli, amongst many, had one thing in common which we can see all too clearly in evidence in our modern day lives. Divide and rule, which proves the old adage that the more things change the more they stay the same.

In recent years the United Kingdom has had a very socially and politically divisive Brexit, which rages on unabated and I suspect will do for quite some time, followed by an equal, socio-political, divisive reaction to the corona virus pandemic. And now we have a social climate deeply infected by the events following the presidential elections in the United States.

Across all three events, many people have been drawn into conflicting positions not fully realising the implications for themselves and their loved ones. Some just try to avoid the subject, whatever it is, rendering it the elephant in the room.

Very few see things for what they really are, that is an attempt to distract peoples attention from other serious problems by setting them at each others throats. For whilst the people are busy tearing each other apart they are becoming dis-united and thereby dis-empowered as any potential threat to the ruling state.

People are divided up into the foot soldiers of all the various factions and take up the positions expected of them. Let the battle commence and the devil take the hindmost.

The ruling class set rich against poor, poor against poorer, man against woman and vice versa. Region against region, religion against religion, class against class, race against race, nation against nation. And they are supported by a main stream media who help to peddle fake news, misinformation and outright lies.

Others like myself try not to get caught up in it, try not to commit to any particular side. We can see the good and the bad points of all sides. We know what is really going down here.

By setting us all one against another the powers that be feel safe from being held to account for their wrong actions and their mistakes, and to continue to do whatever they want to do without fear of accountability. It was ever thus and it will ever be.

Maybe one day the people will wake up and smell the coffee and will be truly united against this mass melee and social fracturing that molests us all. But I think that that day is a long, long way off yet. And so in the meantime the best I can do is try to continue to try to ignore the clamour from all sides and do the best that I can for myself and my family. If you really want to retain your sanity, tagging out is all a man can do I fear.
