The “Bad Habits Bakery & Cafe”

In response to a writing prompt

1. There is only one who runs the Bakery & Café, the owner.

2. Customers always wonder if anyone is up to take their orders because the owner is always behind and under the counter. Sometimes behind the wall, in the big kitchen.

3. There is no menu!

4. Because of the beautiful scents of a variety of coffee and tea, customers are always willing to wait.

5. Because the warmth of the freshly baked bread and pies are in the kitchen, customers are willing to wait and see what today’s sweet or sometimes savory pies are.

6. The owner always likes to place a chocolate bar on each coffee cup, and a tiny scone next to each teacup.

7. One day, an angry man comes, parks his bicycle in front of the Bakery & Café, yelling at a child to move away from the entrance so he can enter, orders what he wants, and fulfills his hungry mind and stomach.

8. The owner is usually doing what he wants to do.

9. The man tells the owner why he has to wait for so long and why he has to search for a menu. The owner tells him what he wants to drink, and it will be ready. The owner also tells him the kinds of pie he can think of from the flour in the air, and it will be ready.

10. The man then orders the best coffee he has ever had in his hometown and the best chicken pie he has ever had in his life.

11. Waits for 11 minutes.

12. The medium size coffee with a chocolate bar costs 4.8 dollars. The descent size of a chicken pie was 12 dollars.

13. He planned to be mean to the owner after some quick bites and a few slurps. But he did not. He sits on the bench for a while, covering his face with both hands, sobbing.

14. Another kid and the mother walk by, and the kid says, “Are you okay?”

15. The man says, “I’m alright. These just reminded me of my childhood.”

16. After finishing the drink and the chicken pie, he’s decided not to continue his bad habits — betting with his friends on how much labeling they could do in a month.

He failed to label his third one this month.

Instead of labeling it a “Bad Habit Bakery & Café,” he’s decided to call this one “My Bakery & Café” and come back for another pie next month.
