The Average Income Around The World
How much do people earn in different countries?
Before I present you with the precise data, it is necessary to make three remarks.
- First, the data do not necessarily equate to the standard of living or prosperity. After all, the cost of living varies from country to country. I can confirm this from my own experience. I did a lot of sports in my youth and took part in international competitions. At one competition, I got into a conversation with a South African. He told me that his family in South Africa was very rich, but that his trips to the competitions in Europe were also quite expensive for him because of the different cost of living.
- Secondly, the average income may not be the most representative metric. That’s because the average is extremely inflated by a few top earners, so probably 80% earn below average.
- Income does not refer exclusively to salary. It also includes income from other sources, such as capital gains.
The country of the top earners
The first place goes to Monaco. However, Monaco is just a tiny country on the Mediterranean coast of France. Its 38,682 inhabitants have an average annual income of $186,080, which is $15,507 per month.
Monaco is known worldwide for the Formula 1 Grand Prix that takes place there.
The silver medal goes to Bermuda, where the median income is $112,240, followed by Switzerland in 3rd ($82,620).
