Summary

The article posits that the purpose of existence is to be the best version of oneself through evolution, which is intrinsic to existence.

Abstract

The essay titled "The Aubergine of the Soul" delves into the existential question of why one exists, suggesting that the question itself is flawed. Instead, it proposes that individuals are not merely within existence but are existence itself. The author argues that the prime function of everything that exists is evolution, which offers a choice: to evolve or to cease existing. The article emphasizes that each person's unique perspective and relationship with their surroundings contribute to the collective existence and the process of evolution. The purpose of life, therefore, is to exist as one's best self, to experience life fully, and to aid others in their evolutionary journey, thereby fulfilling one's role in the universal drama of existence.

The Aubergine of the Soul

Eggplant

It has been asked many times. Possibly by everyone.

“Why do I exist?”

The answer can be elusive to many. Why does one exist after all? The answers are infinite in coming… or there is no answer at all? Who can be sure?

I believe that the problem lies not in answering the question, but in the question itself. The question is backwards in every possible way. First, the question itself is literally backwards (i.e. “I do exist”), and second, it shouldn’t even be a question, but instead a statement.

Let’s correct the problem.

“Everything exists because of I.”

You see, you don’t exist inside existence; you are existence, and existence is you.

You are the purpose of existence.

Evolution is a fundamental process of existence. Evolution is a force of nature. Evolution is intrinsically part of existence. As such, everything that exists undergoes the process of evolution. There are two choices given to every object and creature: evolve or cease existing. Evolution is a prime function of everything that exists, and this means that one of your prime reasons for existing is being your very best self.

Not someone else.

You.

Yourself.

You exist as a relationship, a relationship to everything (a relationship to the Divine if you are so inclined). You are not your body, and you are not your mind. You are a relationship with everything you consider “outside” of you, and you are also everything that surrounds you. You think and say to yourself “I am this separate thing, different and unique from my environment.” but where would you be without your environment? Does your environment not support your body? Is it not an extension of your body? As to be the lungs that breathe air, so as to be the air to breathe?

You are your surroundings.

You are existence itself.

Your purpose in existence is to exist. To be your unique perspective on the collective existence. To be a thread of experience in a universal drama of evolution. To contribute your best, and to be your best.

The fruits of your labor, the aubergine of your soul, your offspring is yourself, the well being and happiness of your soul, and the well being and happiness you provide to others in assisting all in the process of evolution. In this way your purpose is known and fulfilled, for you are existence itself, always striving to be its best self, evolving to cosmic levels, playing out a timeless drama of sorrow, struggle, experience, love, and joy.

Be.
