Focus on the moment we are in now, not where we might be later

We are often somewhere else.

From the moment we make and our minds boot up we are often overcome by what is happening now and more so what is happening next.

If someone is speaking to me, I will often find myself drifting on to the next thing that is yet to happen and lose the essence and spirit of the conversation.

I am also doing a disservice to my fellow human being.

This is why I spent time learning how to just be present. In the moment, always. It has changed my life.

Family

Family is everything, providing belonging, love, and support. However, the our lives can sometimes make genuine engagement our family, challenging. Being present means actively listening and engaging with them, free from distractions like smartphones or preoccupying thoughts about work or other.

It allows us to cherish the fleeting moments that, in retrospect, define the quality of our time with them. It fosters a nurturing environment where every member feels valued and understood. They feel listened to and this can’t be overstated.

Children, in particular, thrive when their parents are emotionally available. I see a huge difference when I stop what I am doing and look them in the eye and listen to them. When it is the opposite, I see them struggle to get the point out and often they give up and walk away. This isn’t right.

Presence at Work

In your professional life, being present can significantly boost not only your job satisfaction but your productivity. The workplace has changed over time and more people work from home but when in the office, it can be full of activity and distractions, with emails, meetings, and deadlines vying for our attention.

The art of being present enables us to focus intensely on the task at hand, minimizing errors and enhancing the quality of our work. It goes the same for our interactions with colleagues.
