The Antidote to the MAGA Kool-Aid: John Fetterman Leads the Way

I see where The Don is sticking his nose in the Georgia elections again. His guy is not doing well. I’m writing this before the election, but I hear that his guy is behind by 30 points or so in the polls. It seems that he backed a fellow flim-flam man in Dr. Oz¹. Even asked Oz to declare himself a winner before the votes were even counted. It didn’t work for The Don and I can’t see that it will work for the Oz. Of course, this is being written before any of that happens. But what I want to talk about is Dr. Oz’s Democratic opponent. He is or was Pennsylvania’s Lt. Governor, John Fetterman.
Fetterman is not your everyday politician. He’s plain-spoken, given to wearing hoodies, has tattoos, will show up in shorts, and mostly cuts through all the crap. As I understand it, he won every county in Pennsylvania. I don’t think Oz has a chance against him. Fetterman is a man who makes sense. Oz is a snake oil salesman, like his number one fan.
I think Fetterman represents where the Democrats need to go in this upcoming election. I think they need to call out the crazy people who would like to decide how elections turnout all by themselves. These are the people who don’t think that counting votes is really all that necessary. I can’t see how they’re going to convince the American voting public on the righteousness of their lunacy. I do not believe even for a minute that the majority of the American voting public wants a pseudo-Christian demigod as their chosen leader for dog catcher, let alone for senator or congressman.
Let’s get down to brass tacks here. The Democrats got us all relief for Covid in the form of hard cash. Unemployment is lower than it has been in a long time. Weekly salaries are up. I know we have rampant inflation but we wouldn’t be that bad off if corporations were paying their fair share. I get that there are a whole lot of so-called Christians who have been bamboozled into thinking that The Don is going to deliver them from evil. Well, I have to slow down here myself. You see I remember a fellow named Jim Jones and he sold a particular type of snake oil that he called Kool-Aid.
For those of you who don’t remember, I’d like to remind you that Mr. Jones had armed men making sure the faithful were drinking the Kool-Aid². Jim was an authoritarian leader just like The Don. And his followers gave up their lives just like many of The Don’s followers have given up their lives to follow down the yellow brick road of vaccination denial. Is there some part of this that’s hard to understand?
If anyone is asking, I don’t mind getting that kind of stupid replaced. I wouldn’t even mind replacing the Church Ladies who want to dictate to the world what is right and wrong. Those busybodies want to make their way of thinking the law of the land. The craziest part of this one is that their minds are made up and they’ll not be confused with any facts by God. Is it any wonder that these are some of the same people who are convinced that Q is a real boy and not a long-nosed wooden puppet.
Think about this for a bit. Al Franken was pretty much driven out of politics⁴ for acting like he was going to trap a woman’s boob and was caught on video doing so. The Don bragged about grabbing women by the pussy and he was rewarded with the presidency⁵. And the Evangelical right thinks that this is The One? Well, folks, he’s not The One and I’m afraid y’all are going to be disappointed come the midterms. I don’t think people are afraid of unabashed stupidity. Yet I keep hearing on the news and from the beltway crowd that the Democrats don’t have a chance in the midterms. What kind of bothers me is that his hogwash is reported on the major cable news networks as the Gospel. It’s opinion at best and being fed junk food as another way of considering it. I don’t think people are sad about being out of Afghanistan. I don’t like what the Taliban is doing there, but it’s their country and they have the right to do and think as they see fit. Besides, not even Alexander the Great had much success in conquering that land or those people. That we ever thought we could, was just bad form. In other words, there was not an elegant way to exit from that conflict any more than there was an elegant exit from Vietnam. Russia learned that lesson the hard way just as we did. Now Russia is learning the same lesson again in Ukraine.
Fox News can blame Joe for all this if they want, but we all know that Joe got that dumped on him. If we’re honest about how old Joe has done overall we have to give credit where credit is due. He’s done a pretty good job with Covid. At least he has not denied that it exists. He did a really good job of uniting NATO to come to Ukraine’s aid. The other guy would have let Ukraine go just for spite. When Joe has identified problems he’s done something about them. He put the pots on double shifts, he fired up that formula factory that had screwed up so badly and he even got formula airlifted in.
Joe wanted to do something about lots of infrastructure including supporting greener energy, but Coal Mine Manchin knew which side of his bread was buttered. He likes living on his yacht, wouldn’t you? Joe tried to protect voting rights but the traitors in his own party stabbed him in the back. They didn’t withhold their votes for principles, they withheld their votes for money. Maybe there was a bit of power hunger present in their behavior as well. They certainly seemed to enjoy the attention the press slathered all over them.
There are more issues I could cite but they would be redundant. I simply think that the midterms are the Democrats to lose. I do think that calling a spade-a-spade in this election cycle is going to be a requirement. I think the American voting public wants to see leadership. I think folks are pretty much fed up with lies and fantasy but I doubt they’re going to support candidates with weak spines. I think that John Fetterman has drawn up a good blueprint and I think that any Democrat who wants to enter or remain in office is going to emulate Fetterman. It surely appears to be the case that emulating The Don is a losing proposition. And why shouldn’t it be? The Don is a loser at everything he’s ever claimed to have done. The only thing that guy was successful at is pretending to be a big powerful executive on a reality tv show. He hadn’t been a success as a politician. He lost the House and the Senate not to mention the presidency. Go figure.
