The American Dream, WTF?
A poem
Today, America is bleeding from rampant racism ravaging its communities. Why did a man have to beg for the right to breathe just because he was black? This is no country for black men, say white supremacists.
Although it seems awfully sad to say, America, You’ve lost your heart and soul, and gone crazy for far too long. Disparities are everywhere, growing like weeds, compounding with each calamity, Leaving millions of your countrymen in dire need of human dignity.
And, still, you hold onto the fairytale you call the American Dream. You say it is your own damn fault if you are not rich yet, Ignoring the fact that not everyone has an equal footing in life. You condemn the poor, forgetting that your system is rigged in favor of the rich.
You toot your horns and beat your chest like Godzilla, And you selfishly ask God to bless you, and you only. You close your heart to the pain and suffering of those who are left behind and who must now scramble to survive.
When I see Americans today taking to the streets in protest, I see reason to hope. I see us waking up from our slumber to the blatant lies and false promises. Might we be finally marching towards the dream that Martin Luther King envisioned for us? Or is it naive of me to hope that this is possible?
