According to the New York Post, 84% of Americans masturbate.

Among men, the figure is as high as 91%, while 78% of women satisfy themselves. Of course, they do it to satisfy their needs, but there also seem to be positive effects on their health.

Stress Relief

After a stressful day, masturbation can help.

During masturbation and especially during orgasm, the hormones oxytocin and prolactin are increasingly released, which have been proven to reduce stress.

Improved Sleep

A study involving 778 adults (442 females, 336 males) with an average age of 34.5 showed that both orgasms achieved through sex with a partner and orgasms achieved through masturbation lead to better sleep quality and latency.

These findings indicate that the public perceive sexual activity with orgasm precedes improved sleep outcomes. Promoting safe sexual activity before bed may offer a novel behavioral strategy for promoting sleep.

An orgasm, therefore, seems to be an effective sleep aid for both sexes.

Pain Relief

One study examined 800 migraine patients and 200 cluster headache patients. The results are summarized as follows.

The majority of patients with migraine or cluster headache do not have sexual activity during headache attacks. Our data suggest, however, that sexual activity can lead to partial or complete relief of headache in some migraine and a few cluster headache patients.

Improved Cognition

Especially at a more advanced age, sexual activity, even alone, seems to be good for cognitive performance. This is true for both sexes.

A study found that elderly people who still were sexually active performed better in cognitive tests.

There were significant associations between sexual activity and number sequencing and recall in men. However, in women there was a significant association between sexual activity and recall, but not number sequencing.

Decreasing The Risk Of Prostate Cancer

Obviously, this benefit only applies to men.

A 10-year study with nearly 32,000 participants suggests that masturbation may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Relief From Menstrual Pain

However, there are also advantages that only the ladies can enjoy.

For example, the relief from menstrual pain that can be achieved through female masturbation as well as the relief from headaches.
