The Actor Who Became A Monk
Life events can radically transform a person!

‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ is a popular self-help book published in 1996. It’s about a fictional lawyer who sold his material possessions for spiritual pursuits in the Himalayas.
I have not read the book, but have heard a lot about it.
However, I have known about a story of a popular actor who left his professional life to become a monk.
His name was Sriram Panda. He was a renowned actor in the movie industry of Odisha, India. He had delivered several superhit movies and was even a brand ambassador for an international cigarette brand Cavanders. He was married to an actress and had two sons.
But a business venture gone wrong led to a series of issues, and he had a mental breakdown. In 1992, at the peak of his career, he quit the film industry.
He ventured into the Bihar School of Yoga at Munger in Bihar, India, influenced by a guru. He left everything behind and took on a life of spirituality.
He renamed himself Swami Nitya Chaitanya. For the next few decades, he lived an austere communal life serving as a yoga teacher. He is alive and still in that ascetic path.
I had grown up watching the movies of this actor. I still listen to his movie songs on YouTube. I have watched his interviews as a monk, and I have seen interviews of his estranged wife.
Those who had enjoyed his movie, and known him, still find the transformation intriguing.
That’s how life’s path can be, readers. We can’t predict, what lies at the next turn!
So, we must follow a path of humbleness, and empathy.
In his case, it's a life choice, which is good for many. If he is content with his new life, it’s great. But it may not have been dignified for his family.
It kind of sounds like that of Buddha. We worship Buddha, but I, as a wife and mother, will never want my spouse to do that to us!
I hope you found the story poignant.
