The Absurdity of Life: COVID-19

As a virus once again rattles us to our core and our government’s issue quarantines, it is vital to remember the following:
The human race has long lived in an illusion that we are above nature and times like this humble mankind, while making apparent, we are at nature’s whim. We are not the supreme being on this earth. Such a small entity of the universe, such as a virus, shatters our presumption of us being at the center of it.
COVID-19 has shown us how fragile our society truly is behind the veil that gives us comfort. Our collective government’s lack of preventive measures shows a genuine misuse of citizen protection. All while media sensationalism breeds fear and desensitizes us to the issue at hand. In lieu of fear-mongering, humanity should be thankful to be alive, cherish our existence and most importantly, come to terms with death. Our lives and everything we take for granted can disappear in the blink of an eye and there is no better teacher than nature.
Regardless of all, human history is a cycle. We all have intrinsic value of our own lives, but not necessarily meaning. We go to great lengths to preserve ourselves, but fail to realize how microscopic our existence is.
Times like this should teach us how to remain calm as a society — to replace social panic with social strategic acts. Compassion, community, and critical thinking are three humanistic elements that have allowed us to prosper for thousands of years and one should not lose touch with the elements that make us human.
