The 40 % Rule
You’re Only 40% There; The Other 60% Await Around the Corner.
David Goggins, one of the most fascinating individuals. Former Navy Seal, Ultra Marathon Runner, Motivational Speaker, Author and Former World Record Holder in Push Ups. The list goes on and on. I use to watch often his motivational speeches and I am fascinated by his principles.
One of them goes:
“When you feel exhausted, tired and you want to give up, you´re really only 40 percent done: You still have 60 percent left.”
It is a motto lived by the Navy Seals and the more you think about it, the more exciting it gets. Because at 40%, we might just scratch our real potential. It is the limit, the limit where our mind tries to stop us. It tries to keep us in our comfort zone, it holds us back from excessive effort. But if we consider this motto and live by it, we can explore our true potential. To learn more about it, I would recommend reading David Goggins’ books, great reads and bestsellers. Eye Opening.
We can apply it everywhere, whether we pursue our goals at work, in sports, or academically. At home or with family, there are thousands of possible applications. It’s actually very simple. Every time you think about giving up, it gets tough, and your mind and body resist continuing. Just keep going. Initially, try to go just beyond this limit. The more and more often you apply this, the longer you will be able to stay in this critical zone. Your resilience and mental strength will improve. You will learn to cope in difficult and stressful situations and become more successful wherever you are.
You can apply it everywhere in life. Tap into your true potential. In the end, we’re all only at 40%. Another 60% are just waiting for us. Astonishing.
