Applying philosophy into real life

The 4 Causes Making You More Confident in an Instant

“Know thyself” is hard and here’s how to actually do it

Live for yourself

Through self-knowledge, you will be able to determine your passions and will start doing things YOU want:

The great ancient philosopher Aristotle conducted the 4 causes, which we will use to examine ourselves.

  1. The material cause (causa materialis): “What is it made of?”
  2. The formal cause (causa formalis):What is it?”, “What can it become?”
  3. The efficient cause (causa efficiens): “Where do change, motion, and motivation come from? What drives you on?”
  4. The final cause (causa finalis): What is its good? How will it serve you?”

Putting everything into practise

E.g.: You want to start studying philosophy, but you are not confident in your decision (yet).

  1. Material cause: You have the want to dive deeper into the minds of great thinkers and revolutionists. Philosophy scratches the point other subjects just can’t. (Add: childhood memories, education, etc.).
  2. The formal cause: You hope to establish a wider spectrum of knowledge and points of view, maybe even a new personal life philosophy.
  3. The efficient cause: Academia has always inspired you, all of the hopes mentioned above drive you on
  4. The final cause: You may change the lives of others (any of your own), you become more intellectual, and find passion in it.

Of course, this contemplation was heavily shortened by me. You could go further, and I encourage you to.

However, if you find out that there is no strong basis for your goal, you can quit it immediately.

You don’t want it.

How do you approach goals and insecurity?

See you next post,

Mal
