Freelance Writing As A Work-At-Home-Mum
The 12 Rules Of Freelance Writing as a Work-From-Home-Mum
A 12-part series to help WAHM smash their goals and achieve their dreams!

The “12 Rules of Freelance Writing as a Work-From-Home-Mum” is a series of stories I will be publishing. One per day for 12 days to set out the “rules” of freelance writing with a WAHM focus.
These are not rules you have to abide by, but they are a great guide to help you on your way to a successful freelance writing business. All whilst juggling parenting too!
Why 12 rules of freelance writing?
They are tidbits to help guide you on your journey to being a freelance writer. They aim to improve your freelance writing business whilst juggling parenthood.
Most importantly, each post of this series it to let you know that YOU CAN DO THIS!
I am a working mum, a freelance writer, a blogger, I have several novels on the go, 2 more websites/businesses in the works and still have time for my family.
If I can do this, you can too.
WE CAN DO THIS.
I have got you. Together we will thrive. Together we will achieve our dreams!
Quick outline of the 12 rules:
** I will add the links to each of the rules as they go live. The following is just a snapshot of what they are.**
RULE ONE: Time management and organisation.
This is the million dollar ticket! How to manage your time.
As a WAHM it is difficult to balance your schedule. There is no easy answer. It is not a case of one glove fits all. You need to find the processes and tools that work for you!
RULE TWO: Develop your portfolio.
As a freelance writer you NEED a portfolio. It is an essential marketing tool and one that showcases your skills as a writer.
When you are first starting out how do you build a portfolio?
RULE THREE: Maintain your ethics.
The English language defines ethics as a set of rules of behaviours based on ideas about what is morally good and bad.
What does this have to do with freelance writing? Plenty.
RULE FOUR: Show me the money!
We all love seeing our bank accounts grow, right?
As freelance writers we need to ensure we have the right tools to provide quotes and invoices, as well as track our income and expenses!
RULE FIVE: Keep your knowledge up to date.
Just like with any job, continuous learning is a MUST. You need to stay up to date with the latest trends and skills.
RULE SIX: Balance is everything.
As a WAHM/WAHD balance is VITAL to ensuring our mental and physical well-being, as well as those around us!
We all know balance is essential, but HOW do we do this?
RULE SEVEN: Contracts are your friend.
Simple. Contracts protect you and they protect your client. They are your friend and an essential business tool.
RULE EIGHT: Learn SEO.
This is a little controversial.
Some bloggers/freelancers don’t pay attention to SEO. They believe simply by writing great content that appeals to your target audience they will attract numbers.
Others believe that you have to abide by the algorithms of SEO.
I believe it is a little of both!
RULE NINE: Understand your client.
How can you write great content that your client will love if you do not know them?
You must understand the wants and needs of your client and their target audience to create the best content for them.
RULE TEN: Understand your own goals as a freelancer and WAHM.
Why do you WANT to be a freelance writer?
WHAT is your WHY?
What are your short-term and long-term goals?
RULE ELEVEN: Set boundaries.
Why do you need boundaries in your freelance writing business?
What boundaries should you be setting?
RULE TWELVE: Be proud of what you do.
This is a biggie! BE PROUD. Being a WAHM is not easy. It takes dedication, determination and patience.
