The #1 Mistake that Makes Your Side Hustle Lose Thousands of Dollars a Year
Don’t let this simple fix cost you time or money
Everyone wants to win when it comes to their side hustle.
You want to be the one who eventually writes that article that says,
“I made it to 100,000 views and have made $1,000 on one blog post!”
Now, what I’m about to tell you will probably ruffle up some feathers.
Not everyone is going to get there.
Not everyone has the right combination of creativity and business-mindedness that will allow them to hit their goals while still keeping an authentic voice.
If you want to be that person, here is the #1 thing that you should do.
You need to re-think your entire business plan. Yes, I mean it. You’re doing it wrong.
Here’s why.
People are only interested in being the Hero of their story. They don’t care about your brand outside of how it can make them win.
If you are marketing in a way that doesn’t put them on a pedestal, you’re doing it wrong.
You need to read Building A Storybrand by Donald Miller. This book will take you through the entire journey of how to market to people by making them into the Hero persona, while portraying you as more of a Yoda-like guide.
It. Is. Life-changing. No kidding.
While you’re at it, check out his other podcast.
It’s called Business Made Simple. Most of the recent episodes are actual coaching sessions between him and a real small business owner.
People will go to his website, fill out a form that describes their business + the problem they’re having, then he chooses some of them to be on the podcast (wish that was me!).
Anyways, I learned more in 10 minutes than I have by reading dozens of business books.
It is so simple….oh my goodness. So simple. Yet, so hard.
You have to listen to this podcast and while you’re at it, go to your local library’s online database website and check out some of his books.
I’m currently listening to a bunch of them on audio.
I have a 1-year-old and I don’t have the time to sit and read a book. So sad!
If I brought home a library book, my toddler would first try to eat it and rub peanut butter into the binding. Then she would stomp all over it, rip out the pages and take it outside to leave it in the rain. After that, I would probably call the library and say we lost it rather than try to return a book that looks like it had been run over by a train.
This is the exact reason I recommend audiobooks and podcasts. They are great for that long commute or the boring time when you’re doing chores on the weekend.
What do I do now?
- Get a library card and sign up for your library’s online database.
- Now you can listen to all the audiobooks you want.
- Subscribe to the Business Made Simple podcast and listen to some of the coaching calls.
- Have a notepad or your phone ready. You’re going to want to write down almost every tip he gives. It’s incredible.
Happy listening, everyone!
