The 1 Day Firing
OpenAI CEO Altman was out and, now back again, REASONS?

OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence research company, recently experienced abrupt changes in executive leadership.
On November 18, CEO and co-founder Sam Altman was reportedly fired without notice by Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever and the OpenAI board.
According to President and co-founder Greg Brockman, the decision to terminate CEO Sam Altman was made suddenly by Ilya Sutskever and the OpenAI board.
Altman received notice of an impromptu meeting at noon, which resulted in his immediate dismissal, effective before the end of the day.
Mr. Altman’s departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities. The board concurrently voted to remove Brockman as chairman but offered assurances about his importance to OpenAI’s mission. However, within minutes Brockman resigned in protest of Altman’s firing.
Interim CEO Myra Murati was appointed to replace Altman. As multiple media outlets reported, Murati and Sutskever were the only executives given advance notice of the transition plan.

The Surprise Firing of CEO Sam Altman has really shaken confidence in OpenAI and raised critical questions regarding the company’s direction.
Speculation on What Led to the Fallout
The board claims Altman wasn’t “honest.” Rumors that Sutskever felt Altman moved too fast on monetization, cited duty to OpenAI’s mission of developing safe AGI.
In an internal meeting following Altman’s firing, Sutskever fielded pointed questions about whether the move amounted to a coup intended to refocus OpenAI on safety over commercial profits.
These suspicions aligned with reporting that tensions had grown between Altman’s monetization efforts and Sutskever’s concerns about prudent research practices.
Yet the specific accusations of dishonesty by the board indicate issues beyond straightforward prioritization disagreements.
Some sources suggested Altman hinted at unauthorized breakthroughs just before his termination. This raises the possibility he shared sensitive information on GPT-5 testing without approval.
Sam is back in the building?
Well, Mr Sam Alman is back at OpenAI, unfortunately, he’s wearing a guest security tag saying “first and last time I ever wear one of these.”

So obviously this is a live developing story, here’s what we know so far, according to reports, the OpenAI board has agreed to resign, pending the naming of proper successors.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is said to be leading the negotiations to potentially reinstate Altman as OpenAI’s CEO.
While Altman has not yet officially agreed to return, sources suggest there is a strong possibility he could resume the CEO role by Monday if agreements are reached this weekend.
So basically he got kicked out for a weekend(1 day) and back to work on Monday.
Final Words
There are also unconfirmed rumors that a source of tension between Altman and the OpenAI board was Altman’s undisclosed negotiations with Middle Eastern investors to potentially develop an AI chip manufacturing competitor to Nvidia.
The OpenAI board may have objected due to uncertainties about these investors’ motivations and priorities. However, the veracity of this rumor is still uncertain.
