That’s Just The Way It Is- An Attitude That Won’t Work Anymore
Change is essential to our growth as human beings
We all need to change as we grow, we need to be constantly learning, expanding our base of knowledge and awareness inherent in our society. If we cannot, or will not, we will never make any progress in life, and never develop into the best possible versions of ourselves.
When we were younger, we tended to just accept whatever we were told and let the rest go. We tended to accept the lowest common denominator of groupthink, but that is the antithesis of progress.
We need to embrace change as a constant in our lives. This should be a joyful experience as we traverse the path of our assigned lives, meeting new people and being exposed to the thoughts, ideas, and concepts of others. They are not always right, but why not check them out?
It is the spice of life, the thrill of discovery, and the satisfaction of knowing we have done our best in our short journey through this earthly phase of our existence. We are all here to improve the quality of life.
What it comes down to is each of us fully accepting responsibility for our own lives, and how we can better ourselves in a positive manner that enhances not only our own lives but also the lives of those around us.
Climate change is a prime example, and it is a worldwide problem.
- Climate change will reign unchecked if enough of us do not band together and put a stop to the root cause of it. This is not a solo project.
- Burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and even activity as benign-seeming as livestock farming all combine and contribute to global warming. Awareness must be increased.
- Global warming is the number one existential threat to the existence of the planet and dwarfs all of our other human problems combined.
- It is already happening. The warming increases sea levels from melting ice sheets. It cannot be safely ignored.
- This will flood most major coastal cities, increase more severe storms, droughts, and heatwaves (already happening), and result in massive crop failures and water shortages.
- Eventually, sooner than later, life as we know it will end. This is an issue we cannot kick down the road anymore.
There is an old saying that “Ignorance is bliss,” but that is only true up to a certain point.
We don’t have to reinvent the wheel, but we do need to learn, listen to those more knowledgeable than ourselves, and take whatever action we can to remedy the situation.
It will take a new spirit of cooperation to go along with our increased awareness. We need to develop a spirit of cooperation that transcends what we were taught as children.
We are all in the same metaphorical boat, and nobody here will get out alive if we do not unite and embrace change for the common good.
Petty differences involving artificial political boundaries and systems of government will all be meaningless if we cannot learn, agree, and unite to defeat this new threat of climate change and global warming.
Many think this is an overreaction, but these people are mostly associated with and have a vested interest in the fossil fuel industry, or simply retaining power.
Increasing our own personal knowledge should be a lifelong goal for everybody, in all phases of our lives. We need to learn what’s best for us.
Interpersonal communication, the open exchange of ideas, and the willingness to change are all survival traits we need to cultivate before it’s too late.
We all need to learn to accept the fact that we need to get serious about implementing change and making the world a safer place for all of us.
Climate change is not something we can safely ignore. It’s here, it’s now.
The old viewpoint, that’s just the way it is, won’t work anymore. It is an excuse, not a solution. We are better than this, people. Let’s prove it.
The time is now and now is the time. It’s up to us. We are all connected…
