That Wondrous Day
The scent of mown grass on the summer air I shade my eyes from the blazing sun Thoughts of you fill my mind Of the way you looked that wondrous day
We sat in silence Our picnic spread before us Gazing into each other’s eyes Your face summer tanned my nose was peeling I got sunburned that wondrous day
But you didn’t.
You laughed so much my heart swelled within me My love for you a bountiful well Your lips so full, so soft upon mine I love you still as I loved you then
But you don’t.
We spent the next two summers together Happy almost every single day But then you came home one awful Sunday And you told me you’d met someone else
His name was Jeff.
You said don’t be sad you’ll find someone better I was never good enough for you You’ll meet someone your mother approves off Someone better than me
And I laughed. Then I cried. Then you left.
