Abstract

re Illumination, I would send my articles to big publications and wait for days, sometimes a week or longer. Some of my articles were not even opened by editors. Many times, I got impatient, canceled the submission, and self-published. I write for readers to read and I want my message out there as soon as possible. This motivates me to write.

I did not have any expectations about Illumination. Thank you, Illumination: My First Story with Over 1.1k Claps

Illumination is a recent publication on Medium, to be precise it is only 2 weeks old.

Chris Hedges 🦄 invited me to join the publication, and I am glad I did. Chris is an amazing writer because, through her articles, I feel her soul and heart talking to me and that I call a gift.

I am an aspiring writer who has been writing for the Medium Platform for only 3 months, but as of this month; I decided to write and publish every day. Before Illumination, I would send my articles to big publications and wait for days, sometimes a week or longer. Some of my articles were not even opened by editors. Many times, I got impatient, canceled the submission, and self-published. I write for readers to read and I want my message out there as soon as possible. This motivates me to write.

I did not have any expectations about Illumination. So, I went with the flow. Last week I published my story about How I Survived Malaria and Swine Flu which was curated by the Medium Writers Program under the topic: HEALTH. And here are the stats:

I had curated articles before, but I never had this kind of success. Thanks to Illumination and the hard work of Dr Mehmet Yildiz promoting writers daily on Medium through articles and social media, I have accomplished so much more than I expected.

I write to add value for my readers, and the claps are the validation that I have delivered. With the help of Illumination. I am pleasantly surprised not only with claps and a growing list of fans but for the engaging and growing community I have found here. As Paul Myers MBA wrote in his article:

The level of engagement here is phenomenal.

Also, the opportunity it brings to aspiring writers here on Medium who are swimming through thousands of published articles every day to get a clap or view. Therefore, I understand it is hard work writing on this platform and only top authors earned 900 claps on Medium during 2019, just 1%.

I enjoy reading the stories and connecting with writers because it helps me to grow as a writer here on this platform. My goal as a writer for Illumination is to contribute every day and read hours a day.

Thank you and I am honored to be part of this publication. It is my first journey as a writer.
