Thank You for National Lazy Day!

Because doing nothing is easier said than done!

Today’s thank you notes are for my friend who told me that today is National Lazy Day! And for the day itself, and thank you to the person who created it.

Really! It is a legitimately recognized day. Truly!

You can Google the veracity of this nugget if you like, but that would mean taking action. In the spirit of this legit day, you should totally just accept it as fact and take my word for it.

A lazy day is not possible really in today’s times. I also am mom to two, so my celebration was to simply sit doing nothing for five minutes straight. In the morning… before they woke up.

It actually was horrible at first but lovely later.

It began with my body being ecstatic at five minutes of doing nothing. No work, no chores, no swooping in to prevent an errant toddler in self-destruct mode, no refereeing sibling battles. Ah, lovely lazy mode on!

But my mind raced.

My to-do list and TBR list flashed before me.

The stack of books already next to the bed and unpaid bills (where do they come from?) beckoned me.

The phone pinged and dinged and flashed in an enticing rhythm.

“Use this time to at least meditate”, screamed the inner voice.

But I held on with firm resolve.

And as the seconds ticked by on the timer on my phone (I am not a saint people!) I actually relaxed. And I simply did nothing.

When my phone finally chimed, I felt calm and glad too. Not sure if I shall do this again, but definitely enjoyed the feeling of doing nothing!

And that is why this is a special thanks to whoever started the National Lazy Day!

P.S.: Is the day’s creator anonymous because they stayed too lazy to attribute themselves to this idea in the full spirit of the sentiment? Leave your thoughts as responses… or clap if you want to be lazy! 🤪
