Thank You, Donald Trump
Trump’s legacy has been outstanding.

President Donald Trump has been called a lot of things during his campaigns and current presidency. You know who was elected in 2016, and for 4 years he has been knocking down not only the home of the brave but the entire world with some unprecedented decisions and tweets: The wall, the Muslim ban, deportations, extreme camp policies in Mexican borders, the withdrawal from the Paris agreement and the WHO, not to mention an interest in doing the same with NATO.
But does it means that President Tweety -as Sleepy Joe would call him- hasn’t done good deeds to be remembered with? Personally, I believe Trump’s Legacy is outstanding and ought to be remembered and taught in schools for the generations to come.
Here are some of the greatest achievements during Trump’s presidency.

Women’s March made history
Can you believe that if it wasn’t for Trump, the Women’s March wouldn’t even have existed? The March that took place the day after Trump’s got sworn in back in 2017.
With millions of people marching in the U.S and Worldwide protesting, not only against Trump’s anti-women statements but also marching for racial equality, gender equality, immigration reform, protecting the environment, LGBT rights, decent healthcare…
According to The New York Times, the Women’s March in Washington, D.C, was almost 3 times the size of Trump’s crowd on his own inauguration day.
So if Trump may ever hold another inauguration again, the Women’s March will still be here long after he’s gone. So, thank you, Donald Trump.
The Black Lives Matter matters
The movement that emerged back in 2013 during Obama’s administration had been welcomed with less enthusiasm and more reluctance to some extent. Black lives matter went viral due to the lack of accountability regarding police brutality towards African-Americans.
Some of the violent protests after the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014 made the movement lose support. Nevertheless, during 2020, Black Lives Matter resurged stronger than ever after the horrendous murder of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by police officers.
Yet, Trump’s administration chose to overlook the protests while supporting law enforcement that throws tear gas on non-violent protesters. It might have gone quite as it usually does, except that the sound of silence in the white house regarding police brutalities backfired. Law and Order have made Black lives matter legit, popular, and approved more than ever.
So thank you, Trump!

Law enforcement Reform
Police techniques based on choke-hold, kneel necks, racial profiling, no-knock warrants have always been used by law enforcement, including the Obama administration. The former president has supplied police officers with cameras on their duty after the Michael Brown case. But, the aftermath seemed to show ineffective results. Police brutality against African-Americans wasn’t getting any lower.
Law enforcement tackles many challenges daily. From dealing with extremely violent cartels, drug dealers, gun trafficking, breaking and entering, robberies, legit threats. Yet, when the police evict black residents because white neighbors don’t like house-guests or extra-cars in the doorway, it feels more like selective protection. Something private security would do!
When the PD is dealing with people with mental health issues with guns, the outcome can never be any good. When training inculcates the idea that shooting first is the only way for the PD, there will be a lot of gunfire for all wrong reasons.
George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are only the tips of the too late iceberg of all African-Americans who wrongly got killed by law enforcement. But maybe for the first time, something is about to change. Thanks to the way Trump has been supporting the PD, law enforcement may finally be made accountable and reformed all at once.
Obamacare cares
The Affordable care act was born during and thanks to former President Obama. Obamacare compels insurance companies to provide basic healthcare despite preexisting conditions (something that Trump has been claiming to come up with lately), expanding the coverage to millions of Americans. Although the public opinion wasn’t very supportive of Obamacare at first, it has gained credibility and approval in time regardless of political position.
In the meantime, the GOP has been attempting to overturn Obamacare by proposing their own healthcare act, the Trumpcare, which will leave 24 million fewer by 2026 according to the CBO report, not to mention charging people up to 5 times more if they have preexisting conditions.
The GOP is reattempting to dismantle Obamacare (which effectively covers 20 million Americans) in the middle of a pandemic that has already taken more than 120,000 lives in the US. While On the other side, Democrats are proposing Medicare for all, as they claim that not only would it cover everyone, but also it will save the government money for the long term.
Trumpcare proposal in the middle of a pandemic just made the flawed Obamacare shinny and needed more than ever.
Climate change awakening
The Bernie Sanders phenomenon seems to have a great impact on young people during both of his campaigns. As an ex-candidate for the oval office, the senator didn’t hold back when it comes to the issues that concern the future generation: Climate change.
In light of this climate, the Green New Deal was proposed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Edward J. Markey, which seems to repel a substantial part of Americans. The deal suggests to wean from fossil fuel and to progressively replace it with renewable energy. It also proposes rehabilitation and job training for the workers in fossil fuel by the government, so they can be able to work. The green new deal tackles other issues regarding social justice such as education and healthcare, and to be crystal clear, it doesn’t involve taking away livestock from the nation, as Fox News has illustrated it.
Although the Pentagon is calling climate change a threatening emergency, Trump would prefer to label it as a hoax. Trump’s withdrawing from the Paris agreement (the only agreement in history where affluent nations, regardless of their conflicts, agreed to reduce their carbon emission by 2050) has likely made activists and politicians even more involved in taking effective action.
Thank you, Trump.

The confederacy flag & statues down
It was not until 2000 that the confederacy symbols were reconsidered for what they genuinely imply. The debate about taking down the confederate flags was quite controversial, especially in red states that depict the flag as a part of their history. However, opening up about the well-rooted systemic racism across the US after the murder of George Floyd by the PD raised, even more, the debate about those little things, unseemly adverse, yet nourishing racial discrimination, like the confederate flag! Obviously, President Trump was against removing these symbols, part of the American history that fought against Lincoln to maintain slavery.
- However, it didn’t hold back NASCAR and the US military from removing the confederate flag.
- It didn’t stop Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves from signing a bill to change the state flag.
- It didn’t prevent Nancy Pelosi from removing confederate statues from the Capitol.
- And it didn’t restrain schools in red states from changing the confederacy names they used to carry.
Accordingly, Trump might have opposed these changes, but it’s during his own presidency that such progress has been achieved!
Thank you, Trump.
Veep HBO is happening
In August, former VP Joe Biden announced who will be joining him on the ticket for the 2020 election, Senator Kamala Harris. She might make history by becoming the first VP woman in the history of America. Despite Kamala’s controversial position, she has built quite an impressive career, not to mention her support for Black Lives Matter and police reform.
When I made the decision to become a prosecutor, it was a very conscious decision. And the decision I made was, I’m going to try to go inside the system, where I don’t have to ask permission to change what needs to be changed.
Kamala Harris
Biden’s pick couldn’t get any better. And maybe, if it weren’t for Trump, Kamala Harris wouldn’t be on the ticket today! So perhaps history will remember the man/woman-black/white ticket that deprived Trump of his second term.

To conclude,
Everything happens for a reason, and maybe Trump happened for a reason too. The trump-era might be recorded as an era of chaos, turmoil, and tyranny. But, to be fair, it isn’t all.
The president may be a wake-up call, a red flag for what’s next, but at the same time, the reason for America’s moving forward. And that’s why Trump’s legacy is outstanding.
Thank you, Trump.
