Ten Reasons Why Medium Has Been One of the Best Things to Happen to Me

I discovered Medium through Newsbreak. After I had a knee replacement I spent a lot of time between physical therapy sessions trying to find something to do. I could barely walk to the bathroom. I was bored, bored, bored.

I remember that Shannon Ashley and Beth Bruno articles caught my attention, and things went from there.

I tried to write a few articles, and they didn’t go anywhere. I know now it’s because of my stubborn refusal to read directions. I thought that a follower was some kind of internet stalker!

I was thrilled to make that first seven cents in 2019, and then I took a break.

In January 2020, I tried again. I fumbled around and published some articles. Finally, I started reading the directions. After that, there was no looking back.

It’s been a great year, and here is why.

1. Writing for Medium is free therapy. I can write about anything I want anytime that I want. Sometimes I share too much, but luckily there is a delete button.

2. I’ve made some new friends on here. A couple of folks have reached out and friended me on Facebook. Jan Sebastian and Pam Winter are two of those folks. Several others make a point to write comments on my articles, and I appreciate it so much.

3. My writing skills have improved. Some people say that your writing will never get better. Well, it certainly can. And I use Grammarly. I love, love, love Grammarly, and it gives me the confidence to write.

4. Publishing for Medium has improved my confidence. I am like the Little Engine That Could. I think I can; I think I can. But, now I know that I can!

5. I feel a sense of community with Medium. I know now that other people like me are out there, and it feels great.

6. My stories seem to bring joy to some people. I know this because they tell me so. It totally makes my day.

7. Medium gives me an outlet to tell my stories. I like to tell stories, and the people around me tend to give me an eye roll when I get started. Medium never rolls its eyes at me.

8. I never feel alone because of Medium. When I’m feeling lonely, I just open up my browser and read some stories on Medium by my favorite authors.

9. Medium has helped me see who my friends really are. I’ve been surprised at the encouragement some of my friends and family have given me. By subscribing to Medium to read my stories, it shows me how much they care.

10.I have been able to make money on Medium. I’ve been able to save money for the first time since I quit my part-time job. The savings came in handy when my husband was unexpectedly unemployed a few months ago. I never thought that I could earn money by writing about my life, but I can, and you can too!

Everyone has a story to tell. Medium provides you with a place to publish it and share our life with others.

I have stopped reading articles by people who complain about Medium. I don’t believe that Medium has promised us anything. If everyone here would treat their earnings here as a blessing then the Medium world will be a much happier place.
