Ten Choices I Hope I Never Have To Make
Would I Rather What?

I read a story by Autistic Widower ("AJ") and had to participate in the challenge.
Reading his story led me to the original challenge by Jennifer Burke Grehan.
The challenge is to answer ten hard questions of would you rather do this or would you rather do that.
I hope I never have to make any of these choices in real life, because these are not easy to choose from. So here goes…
- Would I rather have a rewind button or a pause button on my life?
The first thing I thought of was the movie “Click” starring Adam Sandler. He could pause, rewind, or fast forward through moments in his life. It didn’t turn out so well for him in the end. I don’t think I would want either, but if I have to choose one answer I think it would be rewind.
Right now I am dealing with the consequences of slipping and falling and breaking both legs in the past, and if I could go back to those moments when I fell and broke bones and tore ligaments and meniscus, and stop myself from falling and breaking stuff, I would definitely do that. So rewind it is.
2. Would I rather be stuck on a broken ski lift or in a broken elevator?
There are pros and cons to both of these. A broken ski lift would be outside in the fresh air, but would probably be cold. A broken elevator would be stale and musty, and depending on who was stuck in there with you, but it would be warm, possibly hot.
I don’t like being cold so I think for this one I will choose to be stuck in a broken elevator.
3. Would I rather have a cook or a maid?
Maybe when we still lived in a sticks and bricks home, I would have chosen a maid, but I don’t really like to cook either. Since we live in an RV and travel all across the country, I think I will take a cook because then we would never be tempted to go out to a restaurant for a good meal. So for this one I choose a cook.
4. Would I choose to travel the US in a motorhome or a plane?
This one is a no-brainer for me. Rich and I are doing just that — traveling around the US in a motorhome. Besides, I get airsick, so planes are out unless it is absolutely necessary.
When I sit in the front passenger seat of the RV, and Rich is driving, I am in my favorite happy place.
5. Would I rather be fluent in all languages or be a master of every musical instrument?
I am choosing languages for this one. I have always wished I could speak other languages, and regularly try the Duolingo app to learn Spanish. I translated a few of my children’s books into Spanish versions and have even had a school in Mexico purchase both the English and Spanish version of some of my books to help the children in the school learn English.
Besides, I hated piano lessons.
6. Would I rather have nosy neighbors or noisy neighbors?
I’m choosing nosy. We live in an RV and the neighbors are pretty close sometimes in the campgrounds. Most campgrounds have quiet time after 10 pm, but it would definitely be hard to sleep if the neighbors were noisy.
Besides, we are nosy too. The first thing we do when we get to a new campground is to talk to the neighbors. We want to know where they are from and stuff. We always make friends with our neighbors. Nosy it is.
7. Would I rather hear the good news first or the bad news first?
I am always a positive person and like to look on the bright side if I can. Bad things happen all the time. Tell me the bad news first and then soften it up with a positive outlook and tell me what’s good about it. Bad news first, good news last.
8. Would I rather be an Olympic Gold Medalist or a Nobel Peace Prize Winner?
I have no athletic ability at all and never have had, but I am a writer. If I could write something that would win the Nobel Peace Prize, how cool would that be.
According to Wikipedia, the Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who in the preceding year “shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”
9. Would I rather be too hot or too cold?
I hate both. And as much as I hate being either, if I have to choose one, I think I would choose to be too cold. Being too hot means being totally naked in front of a fan and still sweating bullets. At least if I am too cold I can cover up more and more and still not sweat. You can only take so much clothing off but you can never stop putting on more clothes.
10. Would I rather lose my vision or my hearing?
I am going to have to choose to lose my hearing. I already have really bad tinnitus and have trouble hearing sometimes anyway. I love to travel and see the country and all the beautiful sights in nature. I want to see America, because then I can still write about what I have seen. I don’t need to hear it.
And right now, as we are driving down I-94 in North Dakota, all of the annoying squeeks and noises of the motorhome would be silent if I didn’t have to hear them.
So there are my ten choices. If you choose to do the challenge, please tag me so I can read about your choices.
