Temporary Friends We Don’t Want To See Again

People who help us through trials and illness

There are people who come into our lives briefly.

Temporary friends are people who come into our lives for a brief period of time. We feel a closeness to them for a short time as we meet, but they are not people that we ever expect to see again.

Some people can meet and feel like friends at airports, restaurants, hotels, parties, events, or hospitals. We may strike up a conversation or they may help us with something. There are some with whom we might enjoy an ongoing friendship, but usually they just disappear from our lives.

When I went to the doctor for a follow-up appointment after having a problem with a kidney biopsy, there was concern because my blood pressure was high along with a fever of 103. It was decided that I should be admitted to the hospital as a precaution.

The biopsy had been done almost four weeks prior. There was a problem with what was supposed to be a quick procedure followed by a few hours of observation. I should have been sent home the same day. Instead, I was experiencing severe pain after which a CT scan indicated that there was bleeding where there should not have been. The bleeding was stopped with another procedure, and I was admitted to the hospital.

It had been over three weeks between the two hospital stays which were at different hospitals.

During my time at the hospital, I was treated and visited by many different doctors, nurses, and aides. They were mostly friendly and nice. They served me and helped me through some miserable times. They became like temporary friends.

When I was leaving the hospital, a nurse said that she hoped they would not see me back there. I hoped the same thing.

Although she and others had become like temporary friends, I had no desire to see her or the others again back at the hospital.

Maybe the people who became temporary friends in hospitals were nice to us, and we would not mind seeing them again in different circumstances. We just do not want to see them again in the same hospital setting.
