Summary

The poem "Tell Me Sister" reflects on the profound and enduring connection between two souls, suggesting that their bond transcends a single lifetime.

Abstract

The poem "Tell Me Sister" by Samantha Lazar delves into the depth of a relationship that seems too powerful to have developed within the confines of a single life. The speaker muses on the idea that their strength and connection with the other person could not have been built in such a short span of years. Despite the challenges faced, which are inevitable between two humans, the speaker is convinced that their souls share a history that extends beyond the current existence. The poem conveys a sense of mystery about the past lives of the souls involved, acknowledging that the details of their previous connections may remain unknown. However, there is a comforting assurance that the souls themselves hold the secret of their eternal bond, which will continue to flourish beyond the limitations of their current physical forms.

this cannot possibly be the only life we have lived together there is no way strength like ours could build in so few years true, we’ve had our trials — we are two humans but I just cannot believe our connection stops with this flesh and with these tongues with these teeth and thumbs we have known each other deeper than one life could hold, and although I will not know how I knew you before, or who we were this time around, our souls will laugh — their best kept secret.
