Summary

The web content discusses the transformation of the education system into a high-tech industry, now known as Edutech, due to the impact of technology and the necessities imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The article titled "Technology Hits: Education Becomes Edutech" delves into the significant shift in the educational landscape, emphasizing how technology has revolutionized learning from a teacher-centered approach to a digital, experiential model. The Covid-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for this change, compelling educational institutions to adopt online learning platforms to ensure continuity of education. This transition has introduced various benefits, such as uninterrupted instruction, online examinations, automated fee payments, digital attendance, e-books, and enhanced computer literacy among students. Additionally, it has facilitated the continued operation of educational institutions and maintained government revenue streams. However, the article also acknowledges the drawbacks of the high-tech system, including reduced attention spans, the need for increased parental involvement, and a lack of peer interaction, which can lead to isolation among students. Despite these challenges, the integration of technology in education has made global learning accessible and is likely to shape the future of education with a hybrid model combining physical and online learning.

Technology Hits: Education Becomes Edutech

Education is now hi-tech

Education is a field which requires a guide who is a mentor and learners. It moved from teacher-centred to experiential learning and now it has taken another turn. It has become hi-tech.

Some countries followed online instructions in higher education for working people as a concept, but the physical presence was also required for coordination and projects.

Online learning was also not given the same status as learning through a classroom. In a classroom, there was a peer interaction and face to face interaction with the instructor, mentor, guide whatever name you may want to give it. This was considered to be necessary for completing one’s education.

During Covid-19 everything changed completely. There would be either no classes at all and students would waste a whole year or otherwise be contented with an online system of education through the computer.

There were initial hiccups, but now not only is higher education under the spell of technology but also schools right from nursery education to high school.

Every child and every adult who wishes to learn has to do so through the computer. There is no physical meeting of people for fear of the disease of Coronavirus being spread to children.

Let us look at the benefits of hi-tech education:

#1. Instructions throughout the year: No one lost a year. Every child attended class and learning did happen throughout the year starting from March.

#2. Examinations: Examinations were also held perhaps a little late but through the online system in schools as well as in higher education institutions.

#3. Payment of fees: Fees were paid through the online system automated payment system. Not all countries in the world did have this method of payment. Many countries still had the physical system of payment of fees with the exchange of receipts from the institution especially true of India. All this is now changed.

#4.Online attendance: Attendance of all students is being taken online. The teaching staff and the supportive administrative staff also log in online and shows that they are attending work.

#5.Publication of e-books: There were hardly any e-books for students. Photocopying was a great measure for students working notes. Now instructional e-books are flourishing and students are using them as their study material.

#6.Online Presentations: Students learned how to make online presentations. This was new to them and in the beginning, they created a little fuss but soon it took shape and this helped them to go for online interviews in the case of higher education students.

#7. Parents participation: In the nursery classes and up to middle school parents participation became necessary, so children had more time with their parents.

#8. Computer training: Every student had to learn the use of a computer and little children could also independently use computers. Almost all the children learned the Microsoft Word, Google and Firefox use.

#9. Running of educational institutions: All government and private institutions were running throughout the year so there was a minimum loss in the education sector in terms of money. The entrepreneurs did not lose money. The government also continued to get its revenue and the teaching and administrative staff could be paid their monthly salaries.

Disadvantages of the Hitech system of learning:

#1.Short attention span: The focus of the student is for a short span period. After that, the mind begins to wander in an online system of study. So for a short period, it has good results but it does not have benefits for long term learning.

#2. Parents intervention: Little kids learn for a few minutes and then go off track. Some of them even sleep and they have to be woken up by the parent. Many things kids do not understand as instruction is at one speed for everyone, so parents have to intervene and help the child. The parent cannot do their own work while the kid is in the online class.

#3. Higher education woes: Some students do not like the online system and switch off their cameras while class is going on. They eat breakfast, go off to sleep and when the time for attendance is there, they are back in action. they waste their own time and that of the teacher and the institution.

#4. No interaction: There is absolutely no interaction and students become self-centred and do not understand the power of giving to others in the peer group. They also become isolated buddies not interested in meeting others and learning from them.

Major Takeaways:

  1. Education has become hi-tech. It is innovative and all activities in the education field are being carried out online.
  2. Student admissions, teaching and examination system is online and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are being operated upon in all the institutions for planning the activities of the institutions.
  3. The technology interface has saved the education system in the world during the year of the epidemic from getting extinct. Students have been able to study from home and learning has taken place.
  4. It is very important to have a physical learning system but the use of good presentations, animations, videos and voice learning are new techniques that are relevant with the modern world and education has been able to deal with it through the use of technology.
  5. Education through technology in a country has become integrated with the world system and students can sit at home and study in any part of the world now.
  6. The families of overseas students need not attend graduation ceremonies by being physically present. They can watch the process online as well. The student can also be graduated if he is not physically present as he can switch on his computer and attend the programme.

To conclude:

Technology has hit the education sector and it has now completely invaded it. New systems will develop and it will no longer be difficult to achieve learning from anywhere in the world. Education is modernized, there will be an integrated learning of physical classes and online systems. Thanks to technology, education have taken a new turn in the lives of people.

Education becomes edutech.
